Hi guys,

I'm keen to get the Samsung AX40 but have some questions, hope folks here who own it can advise.

-Does the AX40 have Ion generator feature?
-What's the difference between the GMD and UWD models?
-Where can I get AX40 replacement filters locally?

Thanks!

1) virus doctor is ion generator feature I think

2) aesthetic and UWD is 0.5kg heavier

3) buy from taobao or qoo10

Samsung one is cheaper....and mostly hyped up lol having said that they are ppl who still go for sharp instead

Both Sharp and Samsung are not hyped up.
You are definitely welcome to share your own long-period/long duration usage stories if you want. :)

Sharp 840/850/860 series, A series, D series etc.....uses 12V BLDC motors.

Samsung AX40 uses Nidec motors (300Vdc).

I have been using the 840 for the past 9 years, daily usage. 12 hrs at least.

2014 season, a few of us were gunning the AX40 pretty much continuously 24-48 hours during hazy days. I am a daily user with 12-18 hrs daily.

2015 season, I can say that literally, my AX40 has been operating non-stop in high fan speed for a period of close to 4 weeks. Non-stop 24/7 4 weeks.

No weird vibrations, no funny sound etc.

My Midea KJ30NV, when the motor squeals whenever I move it. I have been gunning it also for 2015 season, damn loud. It's not meant for my daily use machine, am gonna bring it to my FIL's place in Riau after 2015 haze season.

One more, my LG PSR-459, has been switched on 24 x 7 x 6 week plus since Aug 19th, non stop. At my parents place. Non stop.

Before that, normal daily usage of about 14hrs daily.

You are welcome to do your own personal testing.

Look folks.....I have posted like hundreds of posts in all the threads. It is impossible for me to provide evidence to prove things over again and again and again.

When I share data and recommend products, there is a real reason(s) behind it.

Thank you.

next time there be AP to last 20 years and filter last 20 years...:s12:

Ok, put it this way.

The "lifespan" of a HEPA filter is not measured in years.

It is measured in the number of grams of particulate matter than the HEPA filter/media can hold. The PM capacity, in grams

But in real life, especially for our home use, you'd hit the "smell limit" well before the PM limit.

ignore the smell aspect.
Essentially assume this filter can "catch" 300g filter.
One needs to weight the filter before using , X g
Once the filter reaches, X + 300g. The time is UP ?

so which one is the "non hyped up" ones people should by then? :s8:

Just think long term.

If one can tahan the specs of Honeywell, they are workhorses.

If one can tahan the noise/power consumption of Austin and replacement filter cost, they are workhorses. (no real mention of this brand in this thread). Their AC and Aluminum oxide + KMnO4 mix is crazy, some 5kg for the bigger Healthmate series?

IQAir is up there but too expensive. Similar for other usual suspects.

Sharp brand is going downhill, but the APs are workhorses. There are 10 years old AP still working.

Samsung/LG are new to the block, I hate their aircon and refrigeration products. But APs are great. For regular folks like me who want to have 2-3 rooms regular day usage + provide filtration at parents place coz they are also the caregiver during daytime, then a price:performance ratio over the long term is crucial. Throw in Super El nino 2015 haze season, where you might wanna filter 2 x whole HDBs, it becomes crucial, including filter replacement costs.

If one room, then the decision is usually much easier.

Yes....

I have a 500g x 0.01g resolution scale. You can actually see the grams going up.

However, it rises really slowly. Usually you'd throw away the HEPA way before that. You can feel the slight drop in airflow. If you have a digital anemometer, you can "see" it.

Dyson looks good. It's a fan that purifies air well.

Specifications look suspect.

434L/s converts to 1562 m3/h

Which means 1 Dyson purifier = 5 Sharp A50.

Looking at size, I am not convinced. Just compare the dyson's size with Samsung/Coway AP that can draw 1xxxm3/h of air.

You can't fool physics/engineering.

I like the idea of an AP that can also act as fan but the specifications are ....

10 yrs only if use constantly in ac room only.

Try to buy same ap model so older filter can go to another ap which can be abuse during haze and exhaust it b4 throwing away.

From your experience, when would it be a good time to replace the filter ?

Not everybody has these high tech gadgets...
