I saw UA to tokyo too, is it good?
ANA is good but have less movies than SQ, food is good, but portions are small and no other extra snacks in the event you are still hungry after the main meal(s) is/are served..

UA only has early morning flights departing SIN, so arriving around 3pm. However, UA only flies to NRT, which will take more time for you to get to Tokyo compared to HND. If price is ok, just take it. Don't expect good service or good food and you won't be disappointed. I believe their 777s do have personal TVs, but might not have extensive selections (haven't flown their 777s in a long while, not sure if it is still the old non-on-demand TV).
I am with UA's mileage plus but I will try to avoid flying with them or any other US carriers when possible.
As said, food and service is very inferior comparing to ANA/JAL/SQ/Aseana. As US carriers say - flight attendants are there for your safety, not for your service. So if one's expectation is to have FAs coming in split second with number of choices of food/drinks available - better fly with someone else to avoid culture shock. Couple years ago I almost broke my teeth to UA's 'rice' which was frozen to rock.
If you decide to fly with UA/AA/DL to save money, if you do not eat during the flight, are Ok with 31" seat pitch and are ready to pay US $7 for 200ml plastic wine bottle - you are fine.

Quite spot on.Generally, Asian airlines have better service, food and hard products, then US-based ones have not so good service, food and hard products. I've taken SQ, ANA and UA to Japan, either going to Japan or transiting. Obviously, SQ is the best. ANA is good but have less movies than SQ, food is good, but portions are small and no other extra snacks in the event you are still hungry after the main meal(s) is/are served. UA have "edible" food, if you care to even eat (I've gotten hard noodles on UA) and much worse service of the lot, depends also if you get Flight Attendants from their Japan base or US base.
