Their 787 has 2 configurations - one for regional asian flights and the other european/US flights. The former is 2-4-2 fixed back seat and the latter 3-3-3 recline-able seat.

Do you mean ANA?

Didn't take the 787 to Narita. Was on a 777. But yup. 2-4-2. Quite horrible.

Was on ANA 787 to/from NRT/HND, both able to recline. In that case, I won't book ANA for flights to US.

tt slight more legroom can still make diff...

Of course it does, but it depends on each individual how much they are willing to pay for that comfort. The price could be 2x as much, it's like buying 2 seats.

If I have the miles, I would redeem for business class instead if available. I would redeem for flights to far away like Americas/Europe.

The best I had been on to the States is the 380. Emirate's. Sufficient legroom and generally pretty comfortable.
