I think is the pha2 which is good lol... Of cos synergy counts too.

Also tested ak120/international+ and ak120/pha2, driving es5 and jh13fp. Es5 was enjoyable on both combo. Jh13 i enjoyed it more with the pha2. With the international+, it got quite bottom heavy. Not as likey compared to es5.

yup.. synergy counts, but I feel the ZX-1 is relatively uncolored and that's why it can work quite well as a transport. The issues heard may have something to do with the amp section instead.

I'm not sure how many of you feel the same, but I do think the digital transport does influence the character quite a lot even when using separate DAC/amp.

For instance when I tried the Chord Hugo with the AK240, the smooth and relaxed character was still present.

My current take on the new ak120ii...but before that i have to say i hated all ak's ever since they started...i was a hardcore imod fan....but of coz its transportable not really portable...so i felt going light this time...i listen to all genres of music but majority is metal...i like neutral analytical and close to life sound

so of course i started off at ak240....using jh13 out of SE side i felt the sound was very very thin as compared to my huge pack rig....but still did not dismiss it completely because i have yet to try it with my still yet to arrive earphones....

so yesterday i dropped by to try the ak120ii and boy was i spending alot of time with it...its totally the opposite of the ak240 at the bad points and exactly the same at the good points whereby its neutral....the soundstage is smaller but it sounded fuller but at a neutral standpoint....

in a few weeks time i shall decide which to get after trying it with my new earphones on se & balance to see how it goes....another choice i have is to take the ak240 and RWAK it...but imo if it has to go through mods to make it sound better at this pricepoint its kind of a failure...

i hope owners and strong beleivers do not flame me and take anything as an offence...this is my opinion of it and hope people can benefit and help them in their audio journey....my advice is dont go for the audition with a mindset that expensive is better....the price margin between the two is very little and negligible...

Don worry, we are all here to share our personal feel and thoughts, nothing for owners of any DAPs or Amps to be upset about. That is why there are so many brands and models available to cater to different ppl. Its good to see honest thoughts and views, we learn more this way. ;)

Oh ya the dx90 sounded great! But the ui was a pain.
