Haha I think while the upgrade is good, it may not justify the cost.

The 335DW do work rather well with the AK100.

Decisions decisions...

Wait for the DX50 then.......................;)

Think the AK120 complements more aggressive sounding iems, customs and headphones given its sound signature.

On my JH13 it sounded much better and airy compared to the AK100. The technicalities are more refined and mature as well.

Dynamics are better though still short of iBasso DX100.

On the whole, very much better than AK100 and getting closer to DX100. And probably even nearer to DX100 in terms of sound sig presentation level when AMPed (tested with ALO rxMK3-B). There are missing/fall short of components such as musicality and dynamics that could have levelled the AK120 with DX100.

Reading FAT32 cards (64GB) was a problem as the manual and auto scan didn't quite work during the demo session.

iRiver is heading closer and closer to the perfect portable audiophile player, more so than most other players when everything is put into perspective. Perhaps its biggest drawback is the price when compared to other audiophile players. The benefits and trade-offs in comparison with a DX100 or HM-901, may not justify the price gap. Had those 2 mention players not exist in the same time, the AK120 might have a better audience.

After upgrading the firmware, I notice a difference in sound.. Not sure what changed cause got only 1 AK120 to do an AB comparison.

Overall impression is that the sound is a little tamer than firmware 1.0. more polite.

No lah, just konnichiwa /ohaiyo with the bowing and all, with the Korean equivalent due to iriver's origin.. I

hehehe .. okie.

Is just too bad the AK120 just didn't wow me enough to consider it. perhaps should go try it again and see if impressions improve.

That day, only the Fitear stuff got my attention.
