why would someone get a graphics amplifier for this the 980m card is only around 15% weaker than the desktop 980 gpu.. no point spending so much more money on the amplifier

maybe down the line when the 980m gets older say after 2 years, the GA will be useful

looks like they have actually killed the AW18 - other forums suggest there will never be a new version of the AW - but who knows?! =)

the PCIe x4 is due to the ULV processors currently in the AW13
the GA should run at PCIe x16 if you couple it with either AW15 or AW17

the MSI dock looks like a speaker and is ugly lol =)

haha oh really? then alienware will be without an sli config laptop!! sli config is getting more popular as shown in ces 2015 with msi gt80 titan and aorus all launching sli products!! guess the good thing abt alienware will be the graphics amplifier...

I also waiting for the new refesh or lineup but looking at the specs of 13 15 and 17 inch, seems like all the cpu and gpu are soldered onto the mobo maybe not possible for upgrade in future.

I think Alienware is just responding to market trends. Note that both them and Aorus have launched 15 inch laptops now, I think they figured that between 13/14 and 17 they still need some middle ground (which I really approve cos for the past 1-2 years it seemed no one wanted to do 15-inch anymore and now it made a comeback)

I dont really think SLI is becoming more popular. The big trend in gaming laptops now is slimness, especially now with the 980M being the first flagship GPU that can fit in a slim chassis, slim laptops can now have performance parity with traditionally bigger ones. SLI takes away optimus and some games dont benefit as much from it so theres a bunch of tradeoffs that some buyers may not be willing to live with.

Agree, everybrand now come out with slim chasis laptop.that why alienware now also follow this trend.Currently only Asus still in big chasis but price is cheap.GT80 is very impressive but it is super heavy and heard the price is more than 5k.If like this,i just buy a desktop i think more worth compare buying a 5k plus notebook.

Not bad for the price, I hope they are not using Samsung 4k panel which is limited to 48hz refresh rate
