That was a great deal before the price change, the 4k scaling issue is no longer a big deal, I've been using bootcamp in my MBPr for quite sometime, and I only have an issue in few applications, I think windows 8.1 can already address these. My only concern is what type of 4k panel they will be using, imagine your gtx980m will be crippled by 48hz refresh rate, even MSI 4k laptops are affected. Alienware, known as a premium brand, should not be using those types of panel. Let's wait and see.

lol price looks pretty decent for that at 3000 for gtx 980 with 4k touch screen!!! however the removed the replaceable graphic card technology on this =(

Dang! you got the source on this matter? I tot like the good'O M15X is it using MXM modular graphic cards?

If it is soldered on Gfx, I might look toward aftershock series for upgradability. :(

My friend just Pre order with gamepro for aw15 gtx980m ,price $2999 with fhd.No point get a 4k display on touch because a lot software can't support 4k yet.

I also went to game pro before I bought from dell, salesman says the units are not customizable - it is what it is

I also did not like how he mentioned that i dont need ssd - that 5400 hdd should be enough

The freebies they were offering wasn't also for me

so I ended up chatting dell online and got the AW 15 cheaper than 2999 :D

If I recall correctly, a forumer in NBR had a tweet responded to by Alienware's official Twitter account confirming that the panels will be from Sharp @60hz

Go to the NBR forum and search for the "ALIENWARE 15 HYPE?! leaked video" thread - there were links in there showing that the i7 HQ cpu is BGA so is the 980m which was 4GB version - also BGA

I wont buy from dell online due to personal experience.I more prefer look for the real set rather than online purchase.5400rpm may too slow for gaming.Btw,they customize a good deal for my friend with very very good price.Dell online does not have GTX980m with FHD screen, they only have GTX980m with UHD and GTX970m with FHD.
I dont like UHD because running 4K screen in a 15inch laptop doesnt make sense for me.4k may very nice but for bigger screen and not for a small laptop.Beside, battery life for 4k display notebook will be very short as well.If i want a 4k screen,i rather buying philip 4k monitor which cost me only $899 for 28inch.

haha yes the alienware range now do not use MXM graphic cards anymore all are soldered on!!. sad that they have to remove this good feature. guess its because they wanna make the laptops less bulky... and also because of the external dock. more likely to replace the gpu in the dock rather than the gpu in the laptop itself. thats why the new alienware series is marketed together with the dock.

yes thats true and also 980m cant play much games on 4k anyway. FHD or 3k would be better suited to this gen of 9xx series gpu...

same here, I would have opted for FHD with the 980m, problem is I really wanted the 980m so I had to go for 4k

4k has neat bezels and is touch capable - I wanted to try that out

for those who got their alienware, there are a lot of discussions in forums how the 180W power brick causing the system to throttle, especially for those with gtx980m, the benchmark result is pooorer compared to other laptops with the same specs. In US some were successful changing their brick to 230W, maybe you can also chat/call dell to make an exchange here.
