Few months back I had similar experience, and the gas stove was at max fire. Supposed to heat up my dishes for 5 minutes, ended up only realized 20 minutes later (no mindfulness!).

Those living alone or getting old/suspected demented, probably using electric stove over gas is a better option.

And yes, better put at least one fire extinguisher at home.

Last time I boil water using pot(long time ago like 20 years ago, now I never do such thing)

Same like u forgot to turn off

Hours later then realised

Saw the pot's glass cover cracked, entire glass cracked like anytime can break and fall apart if I were to lift it up

That's why safer to install electric or induction stoves. Wouldn't worry forgot to turn off gas and burn the house down.

if just boil water use electric kettle which will auto stop when water is boiled. My elderly mum used to boil water using kettle on gas stove & forgot to switch off fire few times (even went to sleep & forgot about it), water boil until dry. So now tell her to use electric kettle only.

For those with such problem (forgetting to turn off the gas stove fire), can consider the electric stoves.
Always got some one demo these in Shopping malls or even near neighbourhood food centres.
Induction & Ceramic cookers.

They claim
Quote {
No worries if you forget to turn off the induction hob after cooking, once the pots or pans are removed the conduction is automatically cut.
Some models are equipped with timer, so when the cooking time is up, the induction cooker will turn off, ensuring peace of mind.
} UnQuote

Their salesmen are very hard sell. Beware. I think it is Expensive.

One way to use gas stove is to observe a golden rule.
Never leave a gas stove fire unattended.
Do not walk away until you have finished cooking that item, and turned off the gas.
