AMD Dooms Nvidia in benchmarks

AMD has apparently given Nvidia a good thrashing at 4K in early benchmarks of Doom.

Early benchmarks using the Doom alpha were performed by GameGPU and can be seen as a spanking for Nvidia. The benchmarks are from an early build of Doom, without any platform-specific optimizations done, so things will only get better. The Doom alpha was run on an Intel Core i7-5960X, GIGABYTE X99 UD7 WIFI with 32 GB DDR4 2666 MHz RAM

The Nvidia driver was a GeForce/ION Driver 361.75 while the AMD one was a Radeon Crimson Edition 16.11.1 The benchmarks were run at 1080p (1920x1080), 1440p (2560x1440) and 4K (3840x2160). In both AMD cleans Nvidia’s clock. AMD hits the 60FPS barrier in both minimum and average frames per second, with nearly all of its high-end and enthusiast GPUs. This includes the R9 290, R9 290X, R9 295X2 (dual-GPU), R9 Fury X, and R9 Nano. Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti fall behind the R9 290 - which is a strange thing to see indeed.

AMD does well in 1440p, with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 980 Ti could only manage 41FPS and 51FPS average at 1440p, while the R9 290 has a 55FPS average. The benchmark is in Russian but the good people at Game GPU have done a transation of the key points.

Remember the HL2 vs Doom3 days, it was nVidia winning in Doom3 and AMD winning in HL2

like every time they perform poorer will say driver issue
Wah sai, first time dunno what to say sia. On the one hand, the dual GTX Titan and dual GTX670 owner in me wanna argue with you, but then, on the other hand, the dual R9 290X and dual HD7950 and single HD7970 owner in me is dancing a jig.

Best thing to do now is just sit quietly on the fence and hum to myself....:o

Edit - BTW, tweaktown has a benchmark on AoTS DX12 where Fury X CF beats Titan X SLi...
