Let's start off with addressing the 800 pound gorilla in the room for this card, the noise on load


Why use COD Ghosts?
Players of this game usually soon realise that it heavily loads (~100%) both the GPU and CPU as can be seen from the screenshots of Afterburner and hwinfo64 below captured during actual gaming.

Decided to do the short and sweet Youtube video cos the other videos I found while researching the noise issue were just too full of extraneous stuff and over-padding with ads.

Noise captured with my compact Canon Ixus 850IS digicam right next to the 290 card, the occasional background booms are explosions from the game itself. This is the noise you will hear if your ear is right next to the card, not quite the same as having a card inside a casing sited some distance from you.

Just as important as the reported loudness of the card is the timbre of the noise cos high pitch whines are a severe turn off in my books.

btw , think HDD cages are usually 1.5mm thick aluminium or steel max, if your old case design doesn't allow you to just slide it out then repeat this advice here, a S$2 Daiso handsaw can do wonders... hee hee.

64 bit Afterburner RTSS is on the way, ETA 1 month!

I think I've got good news for you, guys. MSI is interested in funding 64-bit compatible RTSS development. I'll get one month of work time allocated just for this task, so I may focus entirely on RTSS development without switching to different priority things like supporting new VRMs for custom design MSI cards and so on. In exchange, 64-bit OSD support in RTSS will be exclusively available only to MSI Afterburner during 9 months after release. Sounds like rather fair deal for me.
I'm starting working on this task right now, so you can expect 64-bit OSD in RTSS released somewhere in mid December.
You should thank MSI for that, without them it won't be possible to allocate resources and time for development.

No backplate but take note of the thick metal bar present next to the card PCB in the 2nd last photo, part of the AMD direct exhaust HSF design. Note also the tiny dual BIOS switch.

Last photo shows the slightly reddish tinged PCB proudly proclaiming this to be a reference design BBA (Built By AMD) card.
