1) What about legacy software/games that uses single threads?
2) What is the performance of your OCed FX 6300 like?
3) Why not get the FX 8320 for better performance?
Firstly, the OCed speed i got was at 4.5ghz, with Coolermaster Seidon 120M strapped on to it. Back then i was limited by heat as this project was suppose to be a low budget project. And hence i chose the 6300 instead.
I have spend a total of less than 1k to setup this rig. Initially it was purely meant for testing purposes.
Games that uses single threaded performance wise, it does not fair that well in gaming. But it did not lose far behind from intel counterparts. With good overclocking it can be as fast as an intel single threaded performance at stock. With the expense of higher heat output and also more power consumption.
However on the other hand, AMD boards offers great value to buyers. Although in SG it is kinda pricey, but you get good stuffs. For example, the 990 Chipset from ASUS m5a99x is around $21X. At this price range you get a board with a lot of features such as SLI/Xfire at x8/x8 config. A solid board for overclocking. With 8+2 Power phases, all 6gbps SATA ports. ANd the list goes on.
Take the FX series a small challenge. It does have a good close fight with those high end intel CPU in terms of multi core games.

I can say that IF only game developers make use of more cores (which very unlikely but perhaps slowly) AND board manufacturers are more into producing new boards for AM3+ socket. It will be a big plus.
