Hihi, being a AMD user (due to budget, non-fanboy) here, would like to know how my fellow AMD users are faring.

I have been running a Phenom II x4 960 on stock for 3 years. It's a very budget build and have only upgraded graphics from HD 7770 to R9 270x recently (still tight on budget).

I'm using an AMD A10-5750 (Richland) APU with
Radeon 8750M laptop.
Planning to replaced this with a Intel Xeon Workstation
later this year.

I remember the days when I was a AMD XP Athlon 2600+ user.

But now having went over to the Blue camp, I still wish AMD can step up their game and continue to compete with Intel so as to keep prices competitive.

Win-Win.

Nice! We have quite a spread of AMD generations here. I can't wait for new micro architecture announcement in 2015. Jim Keller is supposedly back and designing the new architecture. AMD also did mentioned they are not giving up highend machines. Hopefully something nice comes to the table soon.

I believe they would now that they got more disposable cash from consoles to R&D.

It all started out way back last year when i wanted to venture out what is AMD, and what so good about multi cores, how far would it go for games that utilizes or maximizes all 6 cores in the fx6300. That is where i researched and concluded that it has great potential. Just need more developers support to utilize more cores in the future.

1) What about legacy software/games that uses single threads?

2) What is the performance of your OCed FX 6300 like?

3) Why not get the FX 8320 for better performance?

Did you run any tests or benchs on it? I would be interested in your findings. I considered a FX build but it's deadend so still contemplating whether to go midrange to last a couple more years until more range from AMD to compare another option.

Firstly, the OCed speed i got was at 4.5ghz, with Coolermaster Seidon 120M strapped on to it. Back then i was limited by heat as this project was suppose to be a low budget project. And hence i chose the 6300 instead.

I have spend a total of less than 1k to setup this rig. Initially it was purely meant for testing purposes.

Games that uses single threaded performance wise, it does not fair that well in gaming. But it did not lose far behind from intel counterparts. With good overclocking it can be as fast as an intel single threaded performance at stock. With the expense of higher heat output and also more power consumption.

However on the other hand, AMD boards offers great value to buyers. Although in SG it is kinda pricey, but you get good stuffs. For example, the 990 Chipset from ASUS m5a99x is around $21X. At this price range you get a board with a lot of features such as SLI/Xfire at x8/x8 config. A solid board for overclocking. With 8+2 Power phases, all 6gbps SATA ports. ANd the list goes on.

Take the FX series a small challenge. It does have a good close fight with those high end intel CPU in terms of multi core games.

I can say that IF only game developers make use of more cores (which very unlikely but perhaps slowly) AND board manufacturers are more into producing new boards for AM3+ socket. It will be a big plus.
