Hi,

Unfortunately I discovered this thread too late and bought a T95 Allwinner H616 box, anyone knows if I will encounter any heating issues if I use it only for streaming?

I am hoping it can last for at least 2 years honestly.

heating issue because some manufacturers do not use sufficient heat sink to cool down the chip.

you can improve it by changing the orignal small heat sink to a bigger heat sink.

You can monitor the CPU template using apps like CPU-Z or AIDA64.

Supposedly H616 is a bit better than H6.

If the result is exceeding 85 degree C after playing some video, then you'd better use a fan to cool it down. Or you need to mod the heat sink.

Thanks all for the advice, I guess I will use a mini cooling fan, not sure how to open the box and how fragile is the internal parts.

Mi Box S should be okay, you can Install Kodi or VLC player. If you are buying Mi Box S, you can buy from Mi Stores, like in JEM, Vivo City, Funan and Bedok Mall, usually at S$99 and occasionally on offer at S$89. Online shops may be cheaper though down to S$70.

But if you are purely playing local media files and do not need Netflix HD, then Minix NEO T5 may be a better choice as it has a faster CPU, gigabit Ethernet and USB 3.0 port. Probably online only to get the good price of S$99.

Just ordered the Mi Box S few days ago!

Just a heads up, I doubt the local xiaomi retail stores has it. I went to JEM Store to ask, they told me they have no idea what product is it, and likely to be a China Market only product.

I explained to them I can find it on Shopee "xiaomiofficialstore.sg" and they told me the online platform is not handled by the same agent as the one running the retail stores.

Previously JEM store had it at S$99. I saw it on the store on the right corner of the entrance last year. So looks like they stop carrying Mi Box S.

Anyway, "xiaomiofficialstore.sg" is Xiaomi Global online store (shipping from China). Local Mi Store is by the local agent (Era International). Both sell Xiaomi product with local warranty. And indeed they are different company.

I see. Thanks for the updates. I mainly use Youku TV (酷喵影视). I will check out Tencent Video (云视听极光) as well.

Recently I did try 云视听电视猫 which has licensed Tencent TV contents as well and it does not seem to require VPN either.

Your "4k remux with HDR" source(s) is which HDR? HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG or another HDR format?

Not every 4K TV box -- can support/playback all HDR formats.

Dolby vision and HDR 10+. Just realize another problem my 2019 qled dont have earc so sian. The ports can support but its not implemented by Samsung and apparently heard they're not planning to support for the 2019 models. So shag no DTS ma all

Below are (examples of) some TV boxes that support both these HDR formats: Dolby Vision & HDR10+

(1) Fire TV Stick 4K USD$49.99
https://amzn.to/3c2YAPZ

(2) Amazon Fire TV Cube USD$99.99
https://amzn.to/33uQsUC

(3) Beelink GT King SGD$179.90
https://bit.ly/3kcSIGK

(4) Minix U22-XJ SGD$196
https://bit.ly/35EkOXt

No device is perfect.

- (1) & (2) no gigabit ethernet port.
- (3) & (4) have gigabit ethernet ports -- but both not Netflix 4K certified.
- Level of audio support varies across devices etc.

You need to do your own homework to review such devices in detail -- to determine if any of the above devices are suitable / meet your needs.

Also from your reply,
You seems to imply that -- you're using a 2019 Samsung QLED TV to watch both Dolby Vision & HDR 10+ contents.

May I know what is your (exact) TV model?

Maybe my knowledge is limited -- but I'm not aware of any 2019 Samsung QLED TV that supports both HDR formats: Dolby Vision & HDR 10+

It seems to me you are playing high bit rate Blu-ray rip files. In this case, do not go for cheaper ones, in order to have better visual and audio experiences.

1) Nvidia Shield TV 2019 Pro, Dolby Vision, HDR10, Dolby Atmos, DTS X, etc.
https://androidpctv.com/review-nvidia-shield-tv-2019-opinion

2) Dedicated brand like Zidoo, for example Zidoo Z9X, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos and DTS X.

I have a Mi Box S but the puffin browser that comes with it doesn't allow downloading of files.
Anyone have got any simpler alternatives? Any tips and tricks with the box that I can do with it?

currently I have Plex, DSVideo installed on it.

also, should I root it?

Thank you.

Usually you do not need to use browser. You download from your PC or mobile phone and then transfer to the box if necessary (to side load other apps).

But you can still use apps like "Downloader" from AFTVnews to do that.

Root is the worst thing you want to do on Mi Box S.

don't install any browser. mibox is limited RAM, browser take up too much ram even you don't run it. it will make your box laggy.
