It is better not to buy generic no brand boxes like X96. It is much better to buy branded quality box like Mi Box S.

Anyway, X96 Mini was my first TV box buy in early 2018. It is based on the low end Amlogic S905W CPU. It has thermal issues and I will avoid this box now in 2021.

X96Q is based on lower end H313 CPU. I will avoid this box.

X96 Mini Plus and X96 Mini 5G are based on newer generation S905W4 CPU. However the review is poor. So I will avoid them as well.

Just tried meWatch on my Mi Box S and it seems to work okay with live TV. I did not check VOD.

And Singtel Cast and Singtel TV GO are still working.

The reports in this forum say that Singtel Cast does not work with Google Chromecast 2020. That is kind of strange.

both live and vod should be working well on mewatch app.

with this app, it is not necessary to buy dvd-t2 set top box for those people without dvd-t2 t2 ready tv.

There are alternatives.

1) Google Chromecast 2020, it is better than Mi Box S but it costs a bit higher in SG. And the report here says it does not work with Singtel Cast.

2) Mecool KM2, again cost a bit higher

3) Dynalink Android TV Box, need to buy from US

4) TiVo Stream 4K, need to buy from US

5) Walmart onn. Android TV UHD Streaming Device (box format, from US Walmart)

Thought these boxes use android TV?
No, only the better ones use Google certified Android TV OS, like Mi Box S, Nvidia Shield TV, Minix NEO T5 (not Netflix certified), etc.

The lower cost ones and no brand ones use the normal phone version of Android OS.

What is your budget and requirement? And why do you need phone version of Android TV box? In most cases, official Android TV OS is better for TV boxes.

If you really want that option, you can conside things like Amazon FireTV Cube 2019 (if you need Netflix certification), Minix NEO U22-XJ, Beelink GT-King, or cheaper S905X3 boxes (not many good brands now).

Recommeded boxes: Mi Box S, Google Chrome Cast 2020, Nvidia Shield TV and Mecool KM2 (all of them runs official Google Android TV OS, and all are certified by Netflix). If not required Netflix, you can consider Minix NEO T5 and Mecool KM1. They are also running certified Google Android TV OS, but no Netflix certification.

if i wish to get more RAM (at least 4GB) and more ROM (16GB) because my son would always download lots of games to play, then what would be your recommendations pls? I don't really need netflix but I do wish to watch chinese/korean drama as well as live stream sport events pls.
Budget wise, let's say below $120 or there about? Yup, would prefer android TV OS.
Thanks in adv

Mecool KM6 Deluxe is probably good for you, S905X4 CPU, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, it is around your budget (S$120-S$130) , 4GB/64GB is probably a bit above your budget (S$130-S$140), with a quick search from Shopee.

But this will not be good for more demanding games.

If you need to play more demanding games than the S905X4 CPU can handle, then S922X based box is needed. It will be above your budget.

For example, Beelink GT-King is a popular S922X based box with 4GB RAM and 64GB Storage.

None of them will beat Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 for Android gaming among all the Android TV boxes.

Hi guys,

Newbie here.
I am considering XiaoMi MiBox S and wondering if it comes with live streaming apps or do I have to search for the apps and download it myself?

I am cancelling the cable TV and hence was planning to get live streaming from the android box instead.

Appreciate your replies.

Only got built-in streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon prime video, Hulu etc. Also has Disney plus which can be downloaded from the play store
