Many thanks for that.

Note, once changed cannot change back to AliceUX as the app is not in the drawer. Don't think it's a big problem as other apps carry out the functions.

It is a pity I cannot add an extra row, or two, since there is space on the UI.

I think my SH router WiFi might be too slow at providing a good stream, some video works and some stall despite 20MB buffer. This is the next thing for me to work on as I don't have a long enough LAN cable to compare.

By default the Alice UX icon points to Kodi. By the way, better remove the vendor installed Kodi and then install the official version from Google Play Store.

As for streaming, it depends on the app as well. TX5 Max has very good wifi. You can run speed test to see if the speed is okay or not. If the speed test is okay but your app is lagging, it is the problem with the app.

In Google Play Kodi says it is already installed.

Running a SpeedTest from the TX5 gives a D/L 18Mbps and U/L 59.0Mbps.

Yes you can uninstall Kodi and install again. Tanix has preinstalled Kodi with some dubious add-ons which may slow down Kodi.

As for the download speed indeed it is low at 18Mbps but the upload at 59Mbps is not too bad.

I got more than 200Mbps up and down from my Tanix TX5 Max in the common room using 5Ghz wireless, from my WRT1900AC router in the living room.

Maybe you have too many other devices downloading stuff at the same time.

Worst case you can also get a range extender -- I am using a TP-Link RE350 AC1200 range extender for my boxes and maker boards when necessary since some of my boxes have lousy wifi performance and some of my maker boards have no wifi. I can get 200Mbps to 300Mbs from my range extender gigabit port.

I also have D-Link Power Line adapters which give me 100Mbps to 200Mbps on the gigabit port.

Of course if you want better/easier solution, you can get Mesh.

From the PC that is connected LAN to the same router i get D/L620 & U/L500. There is only about 15ft direct line of sight between the router and box and there isn't anything else connected except a couple of phones not always doing anything.

I do have Powerline adaptors as well but since we are moving apartments in a few months I don't want a huge amount of effort put in until I see our new layout.

Further test results with SuperSU full unroot and Manually delete method. I want to remove root access from my boxes.

X96 Mini Amlogic S905W box -- SuperSU full unroot works, not so sure what happened previously

R69 Rockchip RK3229 box -- SuperSu full unroot works

H96 Pro+ Amlogic S912 box-- SuperSu full unroot works

Tanix TX5 Max Amlogic S905X2 box -- SuperSu full unroot works.

Tania TX6 Allwinner H6 box -- SuperSu full unroot does not work, manual delete files using ES File Explorer app's root explorer function works.

H96 Max H2 Rockchip RK3328 box -- I am able to recover from the RK3328 H96 Max H2 box now. So I recovered it to the same stock firmware first, backed up the superuser.apk first as the lesson learned from previous experiment. SuperSU full unroot does not work. Manually delete the files and remove the system superuser app does not work either since /sbin/su comes back after reboot (/system/xbin/su is gone). But this time I have backed up superuser.apk so I can get it back installed to manage root access.

Enough of experiments. I will leave the H96 Max H2 box as it is now -- rooted but with superuser app managing the root access.

However this full unroot still does not work for apps like SingTel TV Go, SingTel Cast and probably Astro Go official app.

For SingTel TV Go, SingTel Cast, go for Mi Box S.

For Astro Go, based on Malaysia forum, go for Minix NEO U1 or Minix NEO U9-H. And there are methods to get it work for Tanix TX3 Mini (root switch) and TX5 Max (unroot first).

I got the same WiFi speeds using TPG SIM hotspot from my mobile;

D/L ~18Mbps and U/L ~60.0Mbps.

From my ST card the D/L was only 3.3Mbps so i begin to wonder if the WiFi from the box has a problem.....any other way to confirm before thinking about switching it?

Put the TV box near to your wireless router and try again.

Also use Ethernet to test as well.

And compare speed with your mobile phone.

.

It is not necessary to install supersu.apk if superuser.apk is already installed.

Superuser.apk has its own unroot function under its settings menu .

Unfortunately my superuser.apk which comes with the H96 Max X2 does not seem to come with such option. I will continue to explore over the coming weekend again.

In fact I can temporarily uproot the box by manually deleting /sbin/su but then it comes back after reboot. So there is a system process which is doing this during startup— need to find out the process.

BTW, HiSilicon is the semiconductor arm of Huawei and it is actually the No 1 Set Top Box CPU vendor, ahead of Amlogic, Rockchip and Allwinner. It is just most of the boxes based on HiSilicon CPU are mostly meant for the mainland China market.

Tmall category for high end HDD 4K media player.

Zidoo X9S at RMB690 and Zidoo Z9S at RMB860/960 as well as Himedia Q5 4th Gen at RMB699 seem to be among the cheapest. Himedia Q10 4th gen is double the price of Zidoo Z10S at RMB1999.

The above is just for reference. Not so sure if the Tmall models are for domestic market only or not.

Reviews of Beelink GT-King are coming up.

ETA Prime Game Emulator review

One of the valid use cases is for gaming -- eg PUBG or retro gaming with emulators (N64, PlayStation, DreamCast, NDS, PSP, etc, even said to be up to Wii).

From the FreakTab comments, it seems that the Google Wildline Level 1 DRM is fake. Anyway the box is not certified by Netflix and will not play Netflix HD. So the fake DRM is not useful anyway.

My rooted tv box unable to edit system file after enable root explorer. Any further steps to edit using ES explorer
.
Try on another tv box and able to edit like rename.

Or is there any other apps to edit system file?

Did you mount the system partition as R/W under Root Explorer (part of ES File Explorer)?

surprisingly no one is selling tv box at CEE

Not feel surprised, usually it is not a good idea to buy from shows anyway. In fact the best places to buy is still online shops like Lazada.
