Some of the apps I am using myself.

VOD: you can pay for Youku VIP, roughly RMB15 or S$3 per month. I paid through Taobao 88VIP and it is only 88RMB per year which gives you Youku and Xiami Music VIP for one year. No need VPN based on my experiences.

IPTV:
华文电视 is the legal Chinese Live TV apps approved by Chinese government targeting overseas Chinese market.

You can also cast from your phone as Mi Box global version has Chromecast function built-in.

I used to start a thread about Android Chinese Entertainment apps but it was deleted by the admins. Interestingly the iPhone Chinese Entertainment thread is still there -- probably because all apps are from Apple App Store and no side load of apps.

Mobdro is not blocked. Just tried it.

Installation is pretty easy.

FYI I myself do not use it though even though it comes installed with two of my generic boxes. In fact I have uninstalled Mobdro from my Android boxes since I am not into the contents offered by it.
Moreover Mobdro is a grey app.

BTW, for US based English Entertainment, Tubi TV is a free legal app from Google play store and kind of free alternative to Netflix. You may need a US VPN to have access to the full content though.

I want to watch the channels on my big screen TV.
So do I still download on to my mobile tablet or my Android TV box.
If on my Android box would it be different as it has limited inputs and controls.

For MSNBC, their YouTube channel might be an alternative.

Which android tv box is good?

Top is Nvidia Shield TV (S$200+). Then Mi Box S and Mi Box (global version, S$70-90) are good too.

Starhub Streaming Box is not bad as well if you are able to live with the constraints.

Low cost ones like Tanix TX3 Mini and Tanix TX3 Max (S$40-50) are not bad as well if you do not need Netflix and for some reasons do not like Mi Box S/Mi Box.

There are also other brands like Zidoo and Beelink offering various boxes but beginners are recommended to go to Mi Box S or Mi Box.

Once installed, the news TV channels are in the "News" tab.

As I play and click around on my Android box I find that I can get CNN Go and MSNBC on the YouTube channel. Sure it is not fresh content and they have at least a 2 hour lag time. But the video is StarHub quality. For breaking news I can always go back to CNN international on StarHub. So can still use my Android box.


Accidentally there is an icon for Apkinstaller in the Apps box but I can't seem to get it going. Have to check with my son.

Not all apk in the android play store are available in Starhub Streaming Box's play store and if it is not there it will not work or you can not install it.

Since you own the Go Streaming Box, you may want to try to side load apps not available in its Play Store to see if they work or not. I believe it will work with some exceptions.

Yes there are differences in Android TV version of Play Store and normal Android mobile phone Play Store. But I believe that you should still be able to side load many apps with some exceptions.

Starhub Go Streaming box runs an OEM version of Android TV OS with some constraints like no Netflix support. Google certified Android TV boxes like Mi Box S and Nvidia Shield TV will support Netflix. Other than that, I believe it should be pretty much similar ( including Chromecast function) with the caveats that its compatibility may be worse than Mi Box S and Nvidia Shield TV.

Netflix is currently not supported, and we are working towards availing it.

Amazon Prime and Toggle are currently not available on the StarHub Go Streaming Box. These are dependent on their respective owners and developers to make availability on supported devices.

I’ve been fooled time and time again but this is the worst. The seller simply ignore my pleas thinking I’m a docile person that I’m not going to report him to SINGTEL or other relevant authorities
