Last time still got a lot of students working part time in fast food restaurants and other places to earn some pocket money. Nowadays you can hardly find any students doing part time job. Even my son teared up and cried when I told him that when he is in secondary school I expect him to work part to earn pocket money. All kids having such good life now ah?

I worked.

Sec 1 - Wonderland, sell ice cream
Sec 2 - Follow uncle do Construction Work
Sec 3 - Follow next do uncle, shipyard at Vosper Thonycroft at Tg Rhu.
Sec 4 - Security guard at Expo Kallang
Pre U 1 - Restaurant Waiter at Hotel Ramada.
Pre U 2 - Japanese cook in Okoh Restaurant Changi

F&B no hire temp students staff nowadays. All have cheap full time FT staff.
Students mostly get temp jobs at event/gigs as ushers & attendants

Still have.
Is just that nowadays most family are dual household income.
Father and mother work so kids don't need to.
But there are still those who need to work cuz family situation is very poor.
Kids these days I seen before they got credit card, iPhone etc.
Go HDL jiak.
Times have changed.

LKY last time already said before Liao mah. Those famous last words still apply de. The younger generation can intellectually understand poverty and the meaning of no money but they have yet to internalize the lived experiences of what it’s like for them to just really worry about having enough money to buy the next meal. That reality is not lived for them.

If really want to have the lived reality then all it takes is one time crisis to bring down the country stability either though a bad dose of government or loss of domestic unity

Most of them have both parents working and likely with decent/high income. Their pocket money is already a lot and parents pamper their children a lot these days. Children ask for more money or whatever and they just give them easily.

See how many kids get to travel overseas now when they are only in Primary school as compared to 20 over years ago. Some are very lucky to fly business class too.

Before the mid to late 2000s, you will rarely hear anyone flying business class unless that person is a high flyer.

Times have changed so much.

I used to work as admin, shop tender, and waitress during my schooling days. Salary was between 6 to 7/h.
I thought waitressing was tough as had to carry heavy trays and hungry while looking at ppl eating.

Dunno leh.. He cries very easily. Complain so hard. Why he has to work where as his friends no need. And he always quoted his friend can spend 50 to buy Robux.. Why he can't..blah blah blah.
