temporarily disable 5Ghz on Askey mesh

Hi

I need to connect an IoT device (an RM pro) to my new Askey wireless mesh. Currently, my mesh network is working fine and set up without any changes to the default configuration.

However, my IoT device cannot log onto the mesh network.

My IoT device manual explains that if my router offers both 5GHz and 2.4Ghz (and the user can't log in) I should temporarily switch off the 5GHz network, connect the IoT to the 2.4 GHz network, then resume using the 5Ghz network. The rationale is the issue may be caused by a compatibility issue with wifi modes if SmartConfig is used.

Please advise how to perform this procedure using Askey mesh. I have logged into the askey via the web browser interface but I cannot locate how to temporarily switch off 5GHz.
Any other ideas on how to connect a 2.4 GHz IoT device to the mesh would be appreciated too!

Hopefully they also give you the free AC Plus wireless router. Use that with your IOT devices.

I figured out how to connect it up to my mesh network; the issue was with authentication.

To make it work, I needed to set up a standard WiFi router on the 2.4 GHz channel using the same SSID and password as my mesh. Once it had Authenticated and connected to that WiFi, I was in able to connect to my mesh.

Nice workaround.

Good to know! WiFi extenders do require more upfront time to configure and setup, but aren't replacing your existing network so you can keep your existing router.

On average, mesh networks can cost as much as $300, whereas a good WiFi extender can cost as little as $50.Right?

Mesh can go down as low as S$99. I bought TP-Link Deco M4, S$99 per pair from Challenger. Now I have two pairs.

Prior to that, I bought TP-Link range extenders RE350 and RE305, added together the cost was also around S$99.

Can we use other brands of mesh device for singtel fiber network or we must purchase from singtel ?

As I know that singtel ont lock down singtel wifi router that restricted us by disabling us to change modem on our own.

So is mesh the same? Did they lock down on mesh also.

Wifi routers or mesh are still usable. But, it is recommended to configure them as an access point. You just cant use your wifi router or mesh as the actual router (modem in ONR mode).

mesh does not have a restriction with singtel. However, do note that some mesh units are capable of functioning as a router for the parent node while other child nodes are not.

If you setup the parent node as a router, for eg linksys velop, then it will not work since velop does not support vlan. However, if you set up velop as a bridged device via the linksys app, then it will work.

Meaning to say that singtel network can't just plug in the mesh device and start using immediately?

Cos last time I tried to replaced with xiaomi wifi router ,in the end cannot work.

So I was thinking is it the same for mesh.i am thinking of buy Huawei router from taobao

Chim.sia. Not an network expert.
So is advisable for me to chose m1 without restriction instead?

I'm about to give up on this. Bought 4 pieces off the internet.
Thought of using it in Malaysia. But it is too unstable to be used.

Dunno what I need to change to get working

Hmm, how much did you buy these SingTel Mesh units? They are meant to be used for SingTel Fibre. Unless you are capable hackers you probably do not want to buy it for use with other telco.

Just buy cheap Mesh like TP-Link Deco M4 (S$99 per pair from Challenger) or M5 if you want cheap Mesh units.

Even if you are SingTel users, you may want to avoid SingTel Only Mesh (AirTies and Askey) and buy your own Mesh solutions.

Based on the feedbacks here, it is also better to avoid Samsung Connect Home.

The only exception is probably when you need to connect SingTel TV box through wireless, then no choice you may need to go to the supported Mesh solution -- Netgear Orbi (more expensive but probably worth it) or the above three (cheaper but not very good).

Thanks. I didn't buy too expensive. Still it was a bit ridiculous to buy and end up with a white elephant.
It's a good warning in future not too buy something that will lock you down into walled garden.

On my airties wifi app I will get this msg, "You are connected to your home gateway, not an Airties nod. Pls turn your gateway's wireless feature off to use the high performance Airties wireless network". Can anyone pls advise me on how to troubleshoot this problem. Thank you.
