for those who applied to UQ, how long did it take before you got a reply?

It may take anything from a week to a month or so. Especially if you've applied during the IDP fair, cos there will be a significantly high influx of applications.

You can try contacting IDP if you've not heard any news about your application 1 month after you've submitted. Most probably IDP will contact UQ on your behalf and ask the status of your application and get back to you again.

Chemistry is exceptionally challenging in UQ.

Hard to really quantify and compare which course is tougher/challenging etc. haha...Anyway are you from TP as well? Huge chunk of TP students flying over here and doing science degrees, apparently it's recommended by TP lecturers.

Chem eng is getting more and more difficult to excel as compared to previous years. Exam papers are much more difficult, and they changed their GPA cap for different honours. 6.2/7 for 1st class, that's insane. It's extremely hard for sg students to get it. And worst of all, the other courses eg science (no descrimination, just got to know science only) 1st class is 6.0 only. Different disciplines having different caps for honours classes. So unfair, but LL. Hai

You can ask her to prepare for a lot of derivation of maths, esp in the 2nd sem of 3rd yr and 1st sem 4th year (reaction engineering and transport phenomena). A lot of tough modules in the 3rd year, and a lot of staying overnight to finish up assignments at school/home etc. Exams are really tough as well, nothing compared to poly.

Which poly you're from? If Ngee Ann, hopefully they still cover MATLAB and lots of maths. Singapore Poly, nothing much to say, dun think their syllabus cover any of the above. Maths at SP is nonsense, useless and crap.

I might be staying on for PR after graduation. I left you a PM, do check your inbox.

Temasek Polytechnic. MATLAB? Damn. Heard of it only from my bro in NUS. Guess I'll have to start to explore that software. Tried F Maths for the first 3 months before, which is fairly shiong lor. Haha..

Anyway, thanks I received it..

Hi everyone,

UQ has kindly provided a funded IELTS for all international students who are graduating this year. This English profiency test is a requirement for application of Permanent Residency for anyone who's interested. However, it's only applicable for students who are/have graduated 3 months before/after graduation. The application will start from the end of this semester.

Which means saving $$$ and time to book the test, really thankful for such privileges at this exact time. Anyone interested?

For orientation, do we apply now before? Or when we reach Brisbane?

Is there a need to apply for orientation? haha...It's just talks about adapting to life in Australia, bank stuff, accommodation, school life etc. Left within 2 hours or so, cos I've settled almost everything before the orientation.

Market Day on Wed of orientation is interesting, should make time to go Great Court and grab freebies!!! Pens, lip balm, organisers, posters, etc...

try referring here http://www.uq.edu.au/study/program.html?acad_prog=2001

U need reach certain requirements to be able to qualify for honours.

it is stated that..

"From 2009, Honours is awarded on the grade point average attained on a minimum of #16 and a maximum of #32 level 3 and 4 courses comprising all compulsory level 3 and 4 courses from the field of study; and level 3 and 4 electives taken from part B for the field of study."

i dont quite understand what it means. care to explain?

and does it mean that i have to do an extra 1 yr for the honours?
