All engineering degrees are 4 years direct honours...there is no bachelor in engineering that i can recall of, so there is no issue of another year to do honours.

it is stated that..

"From 2009, Honours is awarded on the grade point average attained on a minimum of #16 and a maximum of #32 level 3 and 4 courses comprising all compulsory level 3 and 4 courses from the field of study; and level 3 and 4 electives taken from part B for the field of study."

i dont quite understand what it means. care to explain?

and does it mean that i have to do an extra 1 yr for the honours?

It means the honours grade (2nd upper, 2nd lower, 1st class, pass) is graded based on year 3 and 4 courses

the #16 refers to 16 units. Some modules might have higher weightage, and may take up 4 units. Typically, most modules take up 2 units.

You need to acheive min 16 units (comprise of compulsory and advanced electives) and max of 32 units for honours to be awarded to you.

it says "from 2009..." so does it apply from those enrolled in 2009 onwards? or those graduating from 2009 onwards?

I don't know why it states it's from 2009, cos i thought the policy has already been implemented here for current students. that's what i heard from the aussie students.

Anyway, you need not be particularly worried about this issue aint it? Cos UQ will most prob give 2 years exemption (if you're from poly). And even if you're not, this policy will come into place next year onwards.

Apparently no one's taking IT over here.

Anyways, i'm almost done settling everything, like logging in to UQ's student portal etc. Only thing left is accommodation, not particularly worried, will be going there to look.

Now that it's nearer to flying over, i feel kinda anxious :o. Any tips on how you guys spent your last few days prior to flying over? Like saying last goodbyes and stuff... hahaha

Just stay on a positive mindset. Look forward. Lighten out your anxiety of fear and loneliness. It feels like 1st day enlisting into Tekong, kinda felt that way when I left.

BTW I'm an BIT Hons grad.

Yeah man, the feeling is absolutely similar to enlisting into Tekong. =:p

Another thing is, I have to clear my IPPT window, and apply for exit permit in the next two weeks.

i have just gotten my eCOE, booked my airtics, applied for bank account, signed the tenure agreement... but now i got a major problem, from the australia immigration webby, its stated that the procedures is approx 3weeks, but im flying on the 3rd. and its stated that you have to be in the country where you applied for the visa, ie, singapore.

should i risk applying in singapore, or should apply over there?

Check with your university and the immigration department - get something in writing because if they screw up, you have half a leg to stand on ( not even a full leg though). You don't want to be screwed up and medical checks are more expensive in Australia than in Singapore.

Could any of you guys give us an idea of which suburbs are recommended we should stay in?

I asked some friends and they all have different views. Some say Toowong is too far away, some say it's alright to stay there. Some say west end is inconvenient but some others say there's the bridge to get over so it isn't that bad

I looked at google maps and places like indooroopilly, toowong, taringa, dutton park are all pretty near campus like a couple of kilometres. Further out there's west end, hill end, woolloongaba, highgate hill, buranda which I think are decent places to stay, right?
