eh my mum received the card last night and we just activated it this morning via WiFi on her iphone 15 plus

reboot the phone but like no signal

anyone else gets that?

she's porting in from giga

I wonder if I should put the giga sim back in so she can still use the phone

No need. Port over from Giga is quite fast. Can use the temporary number to surf the net, watch youtube video, facebook. 🙂

received last night but insert and activate this morning 8.30 am

alamak like that I need to ask my family member to try and help her reinsert the giga cause I am at work now

This one I cannot help you, sorry.

Perhaps in the future it is best to fully research the entire port-in process before subjecting your family members to mobile downtime, else they may make a lot of noise especially if they are the active kind and go out every day. If she's at home, no issue as she can use Wi-Fi.

Try to turn off and on airplane mode. SIM card insert correctly or not?
Check the mobile network settings?
She say already rebooted the phone. But you're right, we have absolutely no other information at all. Is it iPhone? Android? What phone model exactly? Is VoLTE turned on? Etc. etc.

Did she download the 8 apps and activate the line ?
She said activated this morning at 8:30am. Activation could be done by browser or through the official Eight app. It doesn't matter, because the official Eight app is just a very simple frontend to the actual Eight website.

Need to enter the temporary phone number received from email to activate the line after the sim card was installed.
Correct; but only she can tell us if she followed the activation process correctly or not.

Maybe she only put in the SIM card and thought that means activated already.

Because I also no signal.

For my case, it's different cause I opt for Esim.

Once she had activated using the temporary number, should have np.

Once port in successfully, they will send you an sms.

Agree. Once activation through Eight's website is successful, the signal should be available within minutes.

It could also be VoLTE not turned on in the phone, but we need to know the exact phone model for this to assist in troubleshooting.

oh I just checked Heng's she's got signal. was worried cause she left the house and can't be contacted via messaging apps if no signal.

the call is still the temp number though

Ok that's good. The actual port-in will happen later today or possibly tomorrow. Best to reboot the phone after the port-in succeeds.

There are several ways to check, but one sure way to know is if the Giga SIM has no reception, it means that the port-in process has started.

no issue there as long as she's got data.

I don't mean to pour cold water on you but you probably already know that the recent Giga hack / takeover of eSim was possible because the Giga user chose a stupid password that was easily guessable or reused his password from another account so the hacker could easily login to his Giga account and request for a new eSim, thus taking over the number. From there, the threat actor could receive all OTPs from banks etc and managed to siphon off money from his accounts.

Eight works a bit differently but just bear in mind that eSim has such issues which pSim doesn't have, as the threat actor will need to physically get their hands on your pSim in order to take over your number.
