put it this way.
a cheap wire (using very tiny hair of electric conduct material.
so how much amp can they charge to your phone?
since it got very small conductor , can they resist the power from your power source?
don't say me bad mouth, it will be no surprise that one fine day the conductor cannot take it, it will heat up and melt the rubble coat and transfer to your iphone.
unless you got a transformer to lower down your power source.

confirm plus chop. cheapo cable 100% X100% wont charge the phone as fast as the original cable. or else why ppl lying those big cable under the ground ..might as well they all use 2.5mm wire to run electrical.

as i say... if you can sure that the wire can resist long term usage of your house power supply (230V) or your PSU(??V) ..you can try.. but i wont.

the label of the product says for ipod only. If you want to use it for iPhone and anything happens, nobody will be responsible . If it does not work for iPhone, u also LL.

some ppl treat their iphone better than a wife....

i have been using such cheapo cables to charge and data transfer since iphone 3G without any problem. still using such cheapo cables for my current iphone 4 and lovin it. i dun see the point of paying cut throat price for an authentic apple cable.

if you actually look around in daiso, some are actually made in china, but they advertised as all product is made in japan.

most japanese labels, will have a section to declare the country of production on the packaging.. or in it. i think there's a legal requirement for japanese Kabushiki Kaisha's to state clearly to avoid misleading customers.

underground cables has to be thick because it is being run over long distances.

how far away are you charging your iphone from usb?
from jurong to changi or woodlands to marina bay?

original cables and accessories usually have inflated prices. perhaps they can give better consumer satisfaction as the products go through proper licensing and quality control (which explains extra costs).

daiso can sell cheap probably because the products don't go through proper licensing and quality control. but for all you know they come from the same factory as the original and bear the same manufacturing costs.

theoretically, as long as the cheapo cable can conduct electricity, charge and transfer data with reasonable speed, is not unbelievably super thin, has an average build quality, i dont see the reason why it can be so condemnable. unless you are charging from a usb port that is hundreds of metres away from your iphone, you might wanna consider high-grade copper or gold wires.

i wouldn't say its 100% safe to use cheapo cables but i'm suggesting that sometimes you can choose to purchase smartly.

for the 1st bold, i will like to say. the thickness of the wiring got a guildline of what type of cable and grade they got to use for that kind of voltage. not only the distance matter. i agree distance is one of the factor.

2nd bold, can you prove to us or give us any evidence that they come out from same manufacturing? if you do. i will buy and use it.

not that i blindly go for costly accessory, i do use a cheapo car charger($8) on my 1st iphone3G. but turn out, the battery hardly charge fast enough( maybe around 5-10% in 30min) and error msg pop out after sometime (without charging). so when i bought a $30 charger, it can charge up to 20% or more in 30min.

i dont look down on what type of accessory ppl use or iphone. but for electrical side. i encourage ppl use better equipment.
put it this way, will you use a $-20 multi extension plug for your tv, speaker and pc. or a better one above $40 ?

Look at it another way, stock cables that you get for your TV set, hi fi equipment, dvd players etc are usuaally of very low cost and maybe ?low quality. That's why the enthusiasts are spending big bugs buying much more expensive cables.
To them it makes a difference in the sound/picture quality but sometimes to the layman, there is no diff.

Similarly, the charging/syn cable provided by Apple probably is not much diff from the cheap $2 Daiso cable.
You are being charged for the packaging.
