For youtrip card, i can either exchange my sgd to jpy before the trip or use the sgd in the wallet while in Japan? The difference is whether i lock in the exchange rate before the trip or let it auto convert on the day of transaction?

If I have leftover jpy in the wallet, can I exchange it back to sgd?

all correct

I suggest no need to lock in by converting now

i have been using YT past 2 weeks in Japan and somehow have been getting better than the MC Exchange Rate and close to Market Spot Rate (Yahoo Finance)

Just applied for a new Youtrip card as my old one expired. Hope it comes in time for my Japan trip.

Anyone knows how long it usually takes?

How’s the current credit card acceptance availability in tokyo? Is it widespread? (Ramen, food stores etc)

Most of them do. But I went to one ramen shop in Shibuya. Don't accept cards. Cash only. This was in mid Nov. Street stalls at Asakusa don't accept card also I think. No issues at convenient stores.

Anyone bought Suica card using Apple Wallet?

I have some Japanese Yen in my DBS multi-currency account. So I try to buy one (suica card thru apple wallet) using DBS debit card multi-currency but doesn't seem to work.

Just just one of the machines that accepts cc at the JR station to buy. I think it's those red colored ones.

Used it in Japan and a few countries these few months. So far so good, I locked in the rate when the yen was going down.

Most places accept the card, like combini, restaurants. You still need cash to buy street food or some smaller shops. Otherwise, it is pretty useful.

Anyone has used Trust card to withdraw cash in Japan? It would seem better than Youtrip without any fees?

On a December trip to Kyushu, I was on Youtrip and wife was on Revolut.

Credit Card acceptance has really gone up since 2019. The only outliers were a Mr Donut, the car park attendant ojisan at a temple, Ichiran(!!!) and Taxis.

Not having to deal with the 1 yen, 5 yen and 500 yen coins were the main convenience for me. (Imagine if we had a $5 coin in circulation in Singapore)

In general, visa fx seems poorer than mc. Tested using trust card on a jpy txn ytd.

Jpy15000 converted to sgd152.27. I checked youtrip soon after and jpy15000 converts to sgd150.57.

Means difference (sgd1.70) is minimal for small amt, if lazy to top up youtrip before use.
