IKR so I solve the issue w 2 cards haha

Went to Japan last month and use this card.

Only can top up max 3k. Made the mistake of converting all 3k to yen. Cannot top up card coz all transactions are still pending.

Have to wait 2-3 days then can top up a bit. Really troublesome.

Lesson learn: leave the money in SGD and let them convert for you when you do any transactions.

Good info. I learn from your example.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Can I check - if the balances are left in SGD, does the app reflect the exchange rate applied, and how soon after a transaction can it be viewed on the app? Thanks.

App reflects an estimated rate until it goes through the bank. During which it may change, usually, slightly. Transactions can be viewed almost immediately.

does youtrip really have a better rate for big item purchase overseas?

i am skeptical of topping up 3k sgd inside youtrip and not able to withdraw it out later

You trip is only for hotels and emergency flight (for me).

Most other items will be in cash.

On my trip to Osaka earlier this year, I compared same day transactions using my Citibank credit card vs YouTrip. YouTrip has a better rate overall with 4% savings.

It has better rates compared to normal credit card.

I use it mainly to pay for hotels and shoppings.

i have used it to book hotels and rail tickets in yen.

initially, i top up 3k sgd in singapore and spent it all during the trip.

then top up additional 3k sgd in japan instantly before purchase?

If u going to buy things there, do it in cash. Easier.

Only online platforms or hotels with conversion then use card.

U wanna do 3k then spend then topup another 3k also can. But left overs can't be refunded.

hi
after i top up my youtrip, say 2 k sgd, do i need to transfer to yen? or i just leave them as sgd, when i make purchase it will auto take money from the sgd pocket and convert to yen for payment?
also dose this card incur the additional 3% of oversea payment?

Thanks

no need to transfer to yen.
when u buy something using the card in yen youtrip will automatically use the current rate.
you will see the rate that was used for this purchase in the youtrip app.
it does not have additional 3% penalty or extra charge hence the rate definitely better than credit cards.

but before the trip if you find the rate good, you can always sexchange to yen first.

depends on individual lah.

for me i convert my SGD to yen if i think the rate is good, before my trip as i am concerned the rate will worsen when i am in japan.

Dont convert to yen. Once you convert, very hard to top up because all transactions still pending for a few days.

Just let the card convert for you.
