i received 5% rebates when i book Ban Heng for CNY dinner...

I think many bank have this "wedding banquet" exclusion is due to the fact that majority of the banquet here in Singapore are hosted effectively under the same hotel management which houses them. Therefore, the charges falls under hotel (and possibility under travel) and not dining. The clause is to prevent possibility of misunderstanding arising from it.

I would say ban heng is one of very few "standalone" actual restaurant that cater to wedding banquet and therefore, it should also be considered as dining category. Like you said, they used the same terminal for charges so from bank point of view, you are just buying everyone in the hall a dinner for the night!

thanks! i can safely use this card then. our uob one cards are both near 2k for this mth liao, but gotta pay the deposit this mth which we totally forgot about it :s13:

if i'm paying for hotel stay overseas, and i chose the dining/hotel category, will i get 5% rebate for the stay?

If it's $1300 SGD, i should spilt the purchase into 2x $600 + 1x $100 SGD?

Yes if you pay at the hotel itself. Yes 2x $600 + 1x $100

Just to clarify: if we book the hotel stay online (via hotel's own website or 3rd party - Agoda for example) and pay by credit card online, you won't get the rebate?

REMINDER: Remember to choose the category for your next quarter by 25 sep.

Need to select category even if staying on the same category. If not then no 5% category for the next quarter (unless you applied the card in jul to sep 2016, then if no category is chosen, the category for the next quarter follows that of your current quarter).

OOps! I switched to another category (from Groceries to Dining & Leisure) this morning even though the NEXT quarter is here yet. What will happen ah? :s22: Pardon me for asking a silly question.

If from 3rd party - Agoda, it will likely be under travel agency which is under the travel category, not dining/leisure category.

If pay directly at hotel, it should be dining/leisure category.

If hotel website, it should be dining/ leisure. Not sure though as I don't have much experience on this,

Your selection now is for the next quarter, your current quarter category will not change. You can now still switch the selection for the next quarter if you want, the last selection by 25 sep will be the category for the next cquarter.

Can anyone explain what does "fashion boutique" mean?

Does it include other retail shops like game shop, sports shop, bookstore in a mall? Or must it only be clothing or purely fashion related?

It would be quite useless if it only covers clothing.

TnC says covers clothing, shoes and bags.

I actually find ANZ to be one of the worst credit card companies. Not only is their Optimum$ scheme sub-par, they can't even answer a simple query regarding their 5.6miles per dollar promotion for their ANZ Travel Card, which I had asked shortly when it started. Until today, they have yet to come back with any answer, and the promotion ends next week. I had sent a number of iBanking messages and each time someone tries to call me, they are not able to give any answer and say "Will check and get back" but no one ever does. Other bank's reply iBanking msgs in 1-3 days. I have had no reply from ANZ other than the automated acknowledgement of receipt.

I called in just to check and confirm for my category selected some times back, also can't answer. It seems those pinoy CSO will tell you everything "have to ask relevant dapt to get back to you".

Aussie + Pinoy, expected.

I find ANZ CS decent, not bad but not good. They get the job done for certain stuff, especially sign ups. Lol.

Personally, I am canceling my optimum card next year before the annual fees kicks in. Not even interested in a fee waiver. Their redemption scheme and category classification scheme just doesn't fit into my lifestyle after half a year of usage. But it is a good card if you are a hardcore rebate chaser and able to get waiver.

The travel visa is quite good IMHO, though the removal of veloce lounge is a downer. But well, this is for another thread.

I'm also archiving the optimum card since I just reached the minimum $50 required to redeem.

As for the Travel Card, well I signed up thinking its not too bad, then faced so much problem over their 5.6mile promotion that I am probably going to sock drawer it as well since they offer no real advantage over UOB PRIVI unless I travel to AU/NZ.

The way the category is defined remains not transparent to us (user) 'cos it will be determined by Mastercard on how the merchants are categorise. So even u call the ANZ CSO, the pinoy will not know too until the transactions are posted to their system (from Mastercard)....I found this part very irritating and frustrating. Means at the point of payment, u are not 100% sure w/r the merchant falls under your chosen category not.

For e.g. I have one case where my chosen category is Travel and I booked my ticket via cheapticket.com.sg...OCBC classified this portal as Travel BUT ANZ don't, simply cos cheaptickets registered themselves to credit card company (in this case, to Mastercard) as a non-travel company....heart pain lost my max. cashyback per transaction i.e. S$60 x 3 transactions!

Yea... Personally clocking my overseas spending on UOB Privi too, local spending split between Travel Visa and 2 other reward cards.

But Travel visa at least got good multiplier for AU/NZ, not as lame as the June and Dec only for AMEX KF. Lol.
