Apple Battery Replacement Program 2019 ($69 and $99)

Replace my iPhone 8 battery w 3rd party last May. Its draining really fast still.
Will Apple still allow me to do the $99 replacement? And also do you guys think it will help?

They should be willing so long as there are major parts missing.

I think I learned my lesson 6 years ago when I replace my iphone5s battery at 3rd party shop. After replacement it's working for the next 3 months, after that everything went downhill, then I opened up the iphone, I noticed some screw missing, I think the cable cover also missing, they did a lousy job. after that, I only go to the Apple store or A-lab.

in the past when the battery replacement it is expensive, might make sense to go 3rd party. but after their batterygate saga, it is much cheaper now. may not make sense to go 3rd party. the difference is not too big.

Big question is .. will i benefit more using original Apple battery .... ?

Kinda regret going 3rd party previously. Apple was ok to provide battery replacement (despite its a 3rd party existing), but during the 30min service, they alerted me that they cannot proceed as there was no battery tab. It was missing, and they would not proceed due to risk of damaging the phone.
Alas… lesson learnt.
But at least they confirm will replace as long as previous installation was done properly.

I think that’s their standard protocol.

if you bring your unit to them for repair, after their repair doesn’t pass their diagnostic test, they provide you with a replacement unit. May not be new likely refurbished

I think always a good idea to backup first before doing any servicing. murphy law always apply haha...

Actually Apple store staff will mention that you need to backup the data too, even though they will tell you that chance of losing data is low.

I changed the iPhone 6S 128GB battery in early 2019 and iPhone X 256GB battery in late 2021, in Apple Store Orchard Road. Experiences were both pretty good. The 6S is still alive even though I do not really use it. The X is still in active use by my wife even though we will most likely change it later this year.

BTW, if the diagnostic shows other problems other than the battery, the staff will usually offer recommendation as well. For example our iPhone 6S+ 128GB had the Touch ID problem when we wanted to change the battery along with the 6S in early 2019. The staff recommended us not to replace the battery as it might not worth it, and we listened to his advice.

So you went to change at Apple center..They did not ask any questions due to replacement at 3rd party outside? How much did they charge you? My 8 plus also battery changed with outside shop and now started not lasting to use after 5 months. Thanks

No. They ok to do the battery change $75 even if its 3rd party inside existing. The only problem they face was the improper installation of the 3rd party battery. Let me share my DIY experience soon.

Ok. i did a DIY battery swap tonight. Primarily cos Apple rejected me due to the improper installation of my existing battery (stupid 3rd party shop). Here to share my experience.

1. Took me 30mins to literally pry the damm 3d party battery. I actually scared myself, cos my tweezer punctured the corner of the existing lithium battery .. and it created a small flame. Lucky i put it out quickly,

The 3rd party shop DID not use the proper adhesive tabs (akin to those 3M pull & dislodge type). They simply used strong double side tape. So it was virtually impossible to take out the battery without slowly using a ruler to "lift" and scape the bottom of the battery.




2. After which the replacement was relatively simple.
Purchase the Baseus Battery For iPhone

It comes with everything required.

3. Only problem is i made this stupid stupid mistake.
Think i should have connected the battery 1st before i pasted the battery down.



Cable is bit too long. Could have avoided this by shifting the battery slightly to the other side.

So now i have this piece sticking out. Its quite sharp.


But i could close the phone back.

And it works.

Sigh .. mistakes made.

Biggest lesson learnt. Sent it back .. let Apple do it for $75.
Anyway, hope my feedback provides some valuable lessons in case anyone wants to DIY. Its quite easy really. Cept the messy part is removing the battery (IF its installed improperly)

Yeah, totally agreed, I ever tried DIY on my iphone 5 long time ago, change by apple for $75 less headache and 100% original battery haha...

Suggest next time u let the battery run flat 1st before you proceed.
When u pry open those connector, beware that those parts with the "cushion foam" got connector parts hidden below.
If pry open wrongly with force will damage it and cause problems..
