meaning once there's a 3rd party repair, they also wouldn't let you pay $38 to replace the battery?
That has always been the case, to cover themselves in case the 3rd party repair broke anything, you might accuse Apple of breaking it instead during the repair.

After this incident, and the fact that this "feature" is going to continue, best to think twice before getting an iPhone. A year plus to 2 later, the A11 will likely also get throttled. And by then, there may not be a discounted battery replacement.

As an iPhone 6S and 7 user, I don't see why we need to bear the cost of battery replacement at all when they charged a premium price for the phone, and now because of their dodgy updates, they still earn extra money for the battery.

Batteries are considered wear and tear items. As with other consumable products, u wouldn’t expect Mercedes or Audi to change your engine oil / tyres for free don’t you? They price their cars at a premium as well.

Not going to change battery just yet, but if I intend to do so, do I book an appointment via the Apple Store website?

Display only leh

I know, hence by implication... i.e. if you have something repaired by 3rd party that’s not battery related, in this case maybe a screen.

Now you want to bring it to Apple to repair the battery. As long as it is unrelated to the screen, it shouldn’t be an issue isn’t it?

I actually diy change my 6+ battery last month with an oem battery. (Cost less than $30). Now that this $38 replacement program is out, was thinking to bring my phone with the original Apple battery & purchase their $38 battery as spare. (As not sure the oem battery can last 2 yrs or not). I can give them the original battery, on their end "on paper" they can put replaced for me. Hopefully they can close one eye..
