Do update us how long will it take to change the battery.

And do we need to wipe off existing data?

Been using ip5 since now till 6s plus. IPhone is my main driver with a secondary Android phone for other sim card.

I experienced shutdowns twice, sometimes in 2016 June to July, about 8 months into my phone. The cycle count should be less than 300. Sometimes in September 2017, I did a battery test with Apple and they said the battery is still good with some buffer (eg >80%) with about 740 cycle count.

Given the above situation, let me ask some questions for food for thought.

1) When buying the phone, did Apple mention that your iphone may experience slowdown due to battery wear?

2) Are the iPhone designed to be able to operate at full capacity before the capacity reaches 80% capacity at 500 cycles?

3) how much degradation of the battery is needed before the slowdown starts?

I would be glad if Apple just give a one off free battery replacement instead of charging a fee for it. But since they sell easily 100m-150m iPhone a year, we are talking about 500m x $38 or at least $19bn.

I think how Apple manages this crisis is far worse and no class than Samsung with their Note 7. I am kind of losing all respect for Apple from this situation. Apple did not admit their mistake in the design of the iPhone and just doing this $38 battery replacement as goodwill.

One more thing, Apple will only replace your battery if it falls below 80%. So if it is at 95% capacity after 100 charges and it failed to deliver peak voltage required for optimal performance, they will not change for you even if under warranty.

u will prob have to open up e phone again n put e original batt back in. else doubt Apple will replace for u when they see non original batt in e phone.

Not possible, as when I take out the original battery, the process was kinda "violent" really got to pry it loose, and after taking out the battery, it's no longer a smooth flat rectangular piece.. rather slightly bent/deformed.

The replacement kit I bought came with the bare minimum tools to open up, I used a small suction cup, the screw driver with star shaped end and super small Philips end (both provided with the battery) , hair driver to heat up back of phone, finger nail cutter (the metal part) to pry the battery out, watched YouTube video from 2 different person, and start from there. Took about 40 mins time in all.

Before changing, the battery tend to discharge very fast after I open some apps.. and when it reaches below 20% there is random shutdown. After replacing, the charge holds well. However I did not see any significant speed improvement. (Actually don't feel any difference in speed before & after) . I am on iOS 10.3.3 now.

Given a choice again, I would much prefer to go the $38 route to replace with original battery since price difference not much.

Not changed in front of you. But they will run a diagnostic for you when you collect to show the battery has zero cycles on it.
