Delivered today. It was my first upgrade from a 2nd gen, really enjoying the experience so far. But the unit is alot more bulky compared to my existing ATV.

Hows the remote~?
I like that I can use the remote to adjust the tv vol, turn it on. Very convenient. Btw setting it up was such a breeze, you just place your iPhone next to it and they can extract your info over. I knew it worked btw iphones but didnt realise they added it here also.

I bought the Apple TV mainly for AirPlay. I stream sports events/matches from websites on iPhone iOS safari and wish to AirPlay them to my TV for the bigger screen.
So far I’ve noticed if I switch between safari tabs / switch between apps / lock my phone, the AirPlay connection tends to break and the stream no longer shows on the Apple TV.
Is this normal? As it feels very off and backward compared to chromecast behavior.
P.S. I can’t chromecast from chrome mobile browser if the question is why not continue to use chromecast. Cast is only supported from desktop chrome browser and it’s cumbersome to turn on my laptop to perform this same task.

It is normal. It doesn’t lock to the video compare to chromecast. Airplay lock to the device, so example if you are using safari to AirPlay the video, and when u open another tab with video feed, it will auto change to the new feed, or when u open another app that play media (video or audio), it will airplay the new media instead.

The idea of AirPlay is that you are trying to play the immediate media on your device to apple TV.

Normal, because the media comes from the device.

Casting is better in that aspect because it just tell the display device where to stream or what to play from the internet, so less battery drain on device, and you can do what you want without affecting the display.

Thanks for sharing guys!
Guess I've the incorrect impression of AirPlay, was anticipating it to be an "Apple version" of Chromecast.

Bummed. Looks like I won't have much use for it then, apart from enabling my TV to be a second screen to the Macbooks at home.
The apps on the AppleTV are available directly on my SmartTV and I don't intend to take up an AppleTV+ subscription too, already enough content on Netflix.

Any other uses I could do with this new AppleTV 4K?

Actually nothing much. You can buy films off iTunes Stores.
and maybe Apple Arcade for gaming. i bought a lot of films from the stores so yeah..

it's probably useful for those with a non Android Smart TV.

Ya I am also wondering if there’s any point in getting it for my smart TV. Apple TV+ isn’t attractive to me and the Viu etc apps all included in my existing smart tv. The only thing I might be interested in is the ability to play the Apple Arcade on my tv but the games not a lot also. Benefits are limited right now to make me want to get it.

Well, with an Apple TV, you get enjoy a much smoother interface and seamless experience with your iOS devices. Unless you need chromecast, Apple TV is more enjoyable to use.

This apple tv is totally worth it. I used eARC from TV to stream sound to homepod speakers via Apple TV. No lag at all.

Thought with the TV you can get the free trial of AppleTV+?
Anyway it’s really for the better App support and speed compared to Smart TV, plus a lot don’t like the fact that Smart TV track your viewing to sell data.
