I not sure if it is limited for iOS but for Android phones all those can be done using just a Chromecast right? I am thinking of which should I get... Chromecast 2 or Apple TV :/

Use it as a media player to play movies from my NAS via Infuse app.

So you have any like stuttering issues when the video quality is very high. Like those 10+gb 1080p movies? My Chromecast 1 has that and I am looking to see if the Apple TV is any better or not...

If using iOS, Air play 100% no issue. If you using andriod, chromecast will have some issues. Not all will cast correctly. Depending on models

Oh it is not that I think Chromecast is better but it is way cheaper. If it can fulfill my needs then no point getting a Apple TV already.

Guys need some input here.

Just bought the Apple TV. Almost tearing my hair connecting the cables.

I wish to turn on or off the TV automatically whenever i put the ATV to sleep.

Am i correct to assume that i should connect them this way:

ATV HDMI --> Soundbar
PS4 --> Soundbar
Soundbar ARC HDMI --> TV ARC HDMI

However when i connect it this way, the option to power off TV using remote is greyed in the tvOS setting.

Could someone enlighten me on this?

should be ATV HDMI directly to TV. Why do you connect your devices to sound bar? shouldn't sound bar just connect directly to TV? Device -> TV -> sound bar. Am I right?

Your experience differs from mine. It works, yes, but the quality of the video over Airplay is noticeably worse versus playing directly on the ATV.

Airplay for photos and the odd 720p youtube video yeah it's fine.

Best app on the ATV for me. The switch from 90days to 7days for sideloaded apps killed my interest in Kodi on the ATV. Yeah, MrMC is still there and works but I don't like the UI. It does work very well though.

Infuse, while not matching MrMC in terms of video playback support (iso, 3d UI etc) does most things well. The UI on Infuse however is excellent, now it has the dark mode. I find I use the ATV primarily because of Infuse. If you have a NAS with your video files on it, you should be using Infuse.

Kodi.

Its the best device for Kodi now. Fast, smooth powered by the TVOS codecs & the almighty SIRI. Only drawback is you have to sideload Kodi .. but then again its a 5min process with the help of YouTube.

ATV HDMI to TV is the most straight forward
TV source = HDMI-ATV

then sound bar's sound input sound from TV (easiest for me)

if you wanna ATV HDMI to sound bar, then sound bar HDMI to TV,
i think need to select the source on sound bar = HDMI-ATV
then select source on tv = HDMI-sound bar
most complicated but logically possible.

Huh! What do u mean?

Previously, the paid developer account cert could sign an app to sideload, with a validity of 12 months. The free dev account could sign with a validity of 90 days.

Once the signed app expires, the app will no longer launch on the ATV. You need to connect back to a Mac with XCode and re-sign the app with the cert again. Every 3 months, I could live with that.

However, a few weeks ago Apple changed this. Free dev accounts can only sign apps with a validity of 7 days now. So, when you re-sign the app in future ... you need to repeat this again and again every week.

Too much hassle for me.

I do have a paid Apple Developer Account. I can help you sign the Kodi deb and send you the ipa file if you give me your ATV4 udid.
