I didn't need to login iTunes account or download any apps. Set to US location, restart ATV3 and all there.

It's 2 different OS. Apple TV 4 is using TvOS hence those apps that you said had to be installed as the Developers of those apps like Netflix and etc could do updates to fix bug.

It's good. But metadata fetching problem. The rest is amazing. DTS, SRT and all.

2) make a vpn hotspot through your computer

Just subscribed SmartDNS add-on to my current VPN for a small fee.
Hopefully it works else got to resort to the above.

Yeah you could do a smartDNS. it should work.

ATV 4 arrived and managed to get it to play NetFlix with SmartDNS.

I'm currently deciding between the two as there are pros and cons. Using SG account allows me to continue updating apps other than Netflix and purchase apps using my credit card (plus use Apple Music). On the other hand, using US account allows me to continue updating Netflix and most importantly, use Siri.

Of course, there is always the option of switching back and forth between the two, but that's terribly inconvenient as I would have to keep switching DNS (typing on the new remote isn't exactly a breeze).

Switching accounts is very easy in the new Apple tv.

Anyway when I had netflix previously, I was using netflix on my iPhone but using my sg account.

This one I think you need to check with Starhub & Singtel (of course not the usual hotline), I doubt anybody have an answer for you.

Never tried searching since my region is set as US.
But Airplay Mirroring via my iPhone works fine.
Tested today and very happy it works and finally can watch soccer in the comfort of my bedroom since my MIO TV STB is at my living room.
