iPhone 15 PM which my daughter are now using. Original AppleCare+ expired on 21 Sep 2025 (1 weeks plus ago). I checked on the last day battery health is at 81% so not eligible.

Then about 2 days later, her phone got the prompt in setting that can purchase 1 yr AppleCare+ within 45 days. So I proceed to extend it as I foresee the battery health to drop below 80% within a year.

Then today I look at my daughter phone and now it is at 79%??!! It stayed at 81% for at least 2 months prior to the expiring of the original AppleCare+. After expired 1 week plus, it drop to 79%. Makes me wonder……
I think iPhone 15 need 1000 cycles. Maybe others can confirm

Huh? Other than below 80%, now need to at least hit 1000 cycle then can change the battery?

Got battery can last till 1000 cycle and still be above 80%?
I remb there’s a rule change for iPhone15 onwards.

dunno which is which. Someone mentioned before.

Isn’t it more logical that Apple will reject if more than 1000 cycle counts instead of less than?.

So if apple reject my phone if it is 79% and more than 1000 counts I will accept their reasoning of rejecting as it is too many cycle counts so battery degraded significantly, but now cycle count only 550 and u reject me?

I dont really care about battery conservation when using any iPhones and will charge as and when I feel like doing. And with that I only hit 550 cycles in 2 years. How are we going to hit 1000? Maybe need 4 yrs.

And if really need to hit more than 1000 counts, I suggest Apple to remove battery change under AppleCare+ tnc as no one will hit it with normal usage even if used it for 3 yrs.

And my wife iPhone 16 PM already at 90% liao. Passed her after I got 17pm on 21 Sep.

I go to AppleCare+ site and it only mentioned less than 80% and no where I saw anything about cycle counts. I didn’t read the fine prints in documents though.

Will check with Apple on this. Thanks for the information.

I not sure but I read someone saying need 1000 or whatever is logic.

Let’s wait for someone who’s familiar to share.

What is the cost to extend 1 year of AppleCare+?

The rule for battery retaining less than 80% charge and within 1000 charge cycles (or 500 charge cycles for iPhone 14 series and older) is likely for the 1 year standard warranty.

For AppleCare+ as long as it is below 80% battery capacity you can service it for free, regardless of the cycle count.

Quickly buy then go get your battery replaced! Below 80% can change with AC+ IIRC.
Seems like Apple is actively providing AC+ extensions for those that have expired from 2H2025 onwards.

I checked with a few AI and all came back with the same answers.

Apple does not use charge cycle count as a requirement for free iPhone battery replacement under AppleCare+.

The only eligibility requirement is:
  • If your iPhone battery holds less than 80% of its original capacity, AppleCare+ will cover a free replacement.
The charge cycle count (like 500, 800, or 1,000 cycles) is just a design specification Apple publishes — for example, iPhone 15 models are designed to retain about 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 full charge cycles under ideal conditions. That spec is to show durability, but it’s not what Apple uses as a service threshold.

👉 In your case: battery health 79% → you are already eligible, regardless of your 550 cycles.
