head-on collision?

moi kidda hates the punggol PCN...... too crowded, too many joggers, too many skates, too many everything :s13:

No idea. I was in front when I heard a shout followed by a loud thud. :s22:

From the way the bikes fell, it should be at an angle.

Punggol PCN at weekday night is ok. Its not advisable to cycle there on weekend evening.

erwinrommel, wish your friend a speedy recovery. Thankfully he was wearing helmet during cycling, must be quite a hard collision at high speed.

Last night I was about to go Sengkang Punggol pcn, but ate dinner too late n too full so didn't go.

May I know exactly where or which spot it happened so that I can be more careful?

That stretch is very safe and wide. The location is about 1-2 km after anchorvale CC towards the direction of punggol.

After grilling my friend, he confessed he was looking at his mobile phone app to check his speed... for a good 5 seconds! :s22: His speed isn't fast, estimated at about 18-20 kmh.

erwinrommel, hope ur friend can have a speedy recovery.

How about the other cyclist that ur friend knocked into? Was he/she wearing a helmet too?

Thanks.

The other party is a 30 plus year old prc lady. She was OK with no bruises on her elbow and knees as she fell on the grass. And she was cycling on an old heavy single speed bicycle so it sort of reduced the impact for her.

Anybody who cycled along Sengkang-Punggol PCN last night would have seen an accident involving two bikes. My friend was injured and was in a concussion.

In the end, I called an ambulance and that's why there was an ambulance in the middle of the park. :s22:

Anyway, I checked his helmet and saw this:

He landed on the side of his helmet and it saved his life. He's now in a stable condition with plenty of bruises, and CT scan thankfully don't reveal any abnormality.

So please wear helmet during cycling!
wish you friend a speed recovery. ride safe

Came across a meaningful mass cycling fund raising event that deserves riders' support & participation.

Methodist Welfare Services [MWS] launched the GOOD = GETTING OUT OF DEBT Programme to commemorate Singapore's Golden Jubilee and 130th anniversary of the Methodist Church in Singapore in 2015.

Through the GOOD Programme, MWS hopes to partner with the Methodist family to bless needy families in the community by helping them to clear chronic debt and giving them a fresh start. The families will be chosen through stringent screening by professional staff at our centres and partner agencies to ensure that they meet the criteria and are in dire need for help with their debt.

MWS aims to raise $1.7 million to help 850 families through the GOOD Programme to clear an average of S$2,000 of chronic debt ≥ 6 months per household, that are incurred from daily living expenses such as housing rental/mortgage, Town Council bills, utilities, essential household items bought on hire purchase.

About the mass cycling event

  1. The 13 km cycle is a leisure ride through the Kallang Park Connector in Celebration of MCS130. This route is brilliant for families and friends as you wind your way through nature and greenery.

Minimum Age: At least 13 years old as of 15 Aug 2015. Participants below 20 years old as of 15 Aug 2015, will require parent's/guardian's consent.

  2. The 50 km cycle is designed for cycling enthusiasts, while riding around Singapore to commemorate SG50. The route begins at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park and covers scenic spots at Upper Thomson and Punggol.

Minimum Age: At least 21 years old as of 15 Aug 2015.

Not to pour cold water, but i generally boycott cycling events because of safety concerns. There have been so many accidents during mass cycling events.

In the recent prudential charity ride, one of my cycling acquaintance in our group was hospitalized. He took it in his stride and took a selfie of him with neck braces. Came as a shock cuz he's such an experienced cyclist. He said it was too crowded and he fell badly after somebody grazed his path and bumped into his wheel. His helmet cracked as well and his head was ok but not his neck. It copuld have been way worse.

Many times, cyclist falls due to mistakes or unexpected actions/reactions from others-- regardless of experienced or newbie cyclists.

Hence, always wear a helmet!

Age is no factor.

One of the guys in our group is more than 60 years old. He rides a brompton, a tern and other MTB and road bikes.

Hot these few days isn't it?

He cycled 120km round island on hot sunday afternoon. Saw a photo of him lifting up his brompton at the wide stretch of LCK road near the cemetery there. :s22:

Even on his tern, his average speed is about 28-30 kmh for at least the first 80km. :s22:

If you have a family to feed, aging parents and young kids to take care, will you take a chance?

Wondering what brand is the helmet.

Sent from . using GAGT

Met helmet.

Normally helmets will crack under high impact but the person will still be ok.

Cant understand why roadies ride on pcn. shouldnt they be cycling on the road, is a road bike mah. Some of them like to show off, ride quite fast. zoom here, zoom there when there are many slower riders around on the pcn which is quite dangerous.

I think to be fair, because roads are too dangerous.

I've been saying for years that the more cyclists there are on the road itself, the safer it will become for everyone concerned.

When we cycle on PCNs, we are endangering other users and ourselves.

the speed limit is craps npark never really care about it, they themselves speeding (golf car)

It does not matter what npark does. If a cyclist speeds and some other user is badly injured and killed, then, the gov't will blame us. If the golf cart speeds and kills someone, then, let them worry about it.
