Hi Headhunter, I need your advice!

I have just received a job offer and I am going to negotiate for better package. May I know if the following factors can be used ?

1) I will be giving up my current company's bonus payout in January 2015. My current company's Variable Bonus is 3-4 months, so I am losing out at least 3 months of bonus.

I understand that Variable Bonus is not mandatory, but currently there is no reason to suggest that there will be no VB or lesser VB paid out for this year, especially when the company's financial performance is better than last year. I sincerely understand that HR may not take this into consideration, but I think I should still put forth this situation , as this is what I will be really facing if I accept the job offer.

2) In terms of country focus, my current role is on a regional basis where I look at the financial performance of all the countries across the world. For the role offered by xxx company, it will primarily cover *one country*. From xxx company's view point, I will be able to bring my experience in handling other countries into my role of single focus country, while it actually represents a decrease in country scope for myself. While I am willing & keen to take on the switch, I hope xxx can put more weight on this factor when drawing up the remuneration package.

How ? I intend to email something like this (with slight changes to details) to the recruitment firm.

Sometimes when the interview takes place the person haven't transfer yet so cannot hire yet

only after the person officially transfer then can hire

Hi headhunter, another matter came up today, the telco HR ask me to submit my relevant documents such as certs etc, then afew hours after my submission, HR called me and they realised I have not gone through second interview with department head... So will be scheduling me next week. So it point back to my question initially, I strongly feel I'm a reserve candidate.. Because if I was the very candidate they wanted, I shld have already be done with the second interview and waiting for the process? Shouldn't it be this way?

It could be someone who took up the role and either he/she didn't perform and got the kick, or he/she run road after a month. That's why they call me up after two months and ********ting me saying approval for hiring needs time to process etc.

If it so, it doesn't feel nice to know you're unwanted initally but no choice to take you now. Just doesn't feel good at all...

Honestly if u don't feel gd about being a 2nd choice u can always reject the offer. If u want the job then why care about whether or not u r first or second choice? Isn't it a gd thing that the first candidate gave up the job so u can take it?

1) Short term benefits over long term gain.
2) Regional work might be good or bad, depends highly on the job scope.
3) If you are really wanting to negotiate on the package, do tell the recruitment firm the minimum you will be looking at, and any offer below that amount will be rejected outright.

Have u seen anyone failed their medical test before?

Yes. Because the person found out that she was pregnant after the test. It might be discrimination, but the other company didn't care.

If fresh grad doing part time while finding full time job and cross the 6 months period will flag ?

No.

If you get the offer, you are the best candidate.

Companies hire or don't hire people for various reasons. Including
1) Compensation package
2) Experience
3) Availability (if the person they really want is not keen to join them, then why bother)

Equities, fixed income and PWM. The PWM market in Singapore is booming

Go ask your careers center.

Read up on what jobs are available in the market by browsing job ads

Attend more interviews on any job which you are remotely even interested in working in.

think nowadays most people also don't really know what they want to do. most people just work for the money.. every job also is stress and become something you hate even if it was something you liked at first

As much as your first interview.

Companies take a long time to come up with offers. I have had cases where the person was offered only after 3 months after the first interview

My friend graduated with an engineering degree and is currently in a commercial role (less than 1 year in). He has thoughts to go into the engineering field, maybe after hitting the 1 year mark. Is this advisable? Will he be considered a fresh grad still?

Also, if he plans to take an engineering masters before diving into the engineering line , will it be advisable to do so? He said that such masters should be taken as earlyas possible after graduation duatio. Thanks in advance

If he is passionate about it then can consider, do note that in engineering the job prospects are not very bright (low pay increments, a lot of foreign talent, jobs can be easily outsourced to other countries, etc)

IMO, a masters or MBA is only advisable if you have at least 5 years relevant working experience to really add value. Less than that and you might be overqualified in the eyes of many employers

Thanks for the prompt reply. Have you seen such instances of people switching industries drastically esp to engineering? What normally results in terms of pay, prospects etc? Do most of them accept 'starting over'?

No i have not seen such instances. Because engineering is an area which requires deep technical knowledge, and one will not know about these technical knowledge unless one is an engineer

Most of them do not accept starting over because the pay cut is simply not worth it.
