If a person has engineering or sci degree totally unrelated to banking and finance, but he got at least two yrs of related banking n finance exp, he got chance to get headhunted by you for banking n finance positions ?

Basically if a person has a degree totally unrelated to his work exp , he still gt chance to get headhunted to roles similar to his work (and not his degree)?

Even if you have a damn good degree from a very good school, there is a low chance you will be offered a senior role in a financial institution

If you have a lousy degree, but very strong relevant experience to the job you are applying for, there is a high chance of you being headhunted.

Therefore experience with degree > experience with no degree (maybe ACCA or other qualifications) > degree with no experience

By what age would u advise people against a career change ?

Or would u advise people not to change their career paths at all and just follow what they studied for their dip or deg?

Your first job is not really determined by your degree. If not there won't be so many engineering grads in banking.

If really want to change job ideally before 30.

Assume you graduate from uni at age 25 you will have 5 years work experience and a feel of the marlet

so ur first job is v impt ? better to accept a low paying job in an industry which you sure you will be in for the next 10-20 years than accept a high paying job in an industry which you don't see yourself there in 10 years' time? (counting public sector aside)

this also called fresh grad meh :s22:

Once hit 30 I feel very old, worried employers will hiam too old. Normally fresh grad 25+- only ..

this also called fresh grad meh :s22:

IMO irrelevant exp = zero exp to hiring manager = fresh grad :(

Very subjective question.

Need to qualify few things

1) Are you specialized in either retail banking, corporate banking, investment banking or private banking?

2) Do you consider KYC and Sanctions part of AML?

3) What about AML advisory? Sanctions advisory? Because AML is not just about surveillance.

No i do not.

do you think the job market is bad right now for employees?

Depends on what kind of job you are looking for.

Certain jobs are more in demand than others

Generally i would say the job market is pretty good. edmw might complain about FT, but a lot of companies (local MNC and financial institutions) only want to hire Singaporeans
