Hi AAH,

What kind of background check does HR do when hiring a new staff?

Unless you are fairly senior, they will just do a normal reference check

Call your previous company, or your previous HR, ask to speak with your previous manager/HR manager, ask them about your work performance.

Is it common for hiring companies to ask for candidates' photocopy of ic, even before the hiring or offer being made?

Is it a must to include expected salary in resume? Even if job description didnt even say anything about salary?

HH...any idea? thanks.

Pls do not ask me about too general questions about salary.

Got too many different scenarios including

1) internal equity
2) size of company
3) job hopper or not
4) guaranteed bonus or not
5) your qualifications (degree or mba, etc)
6) local, asian, European company, etc
7) how many months variable bonus (some IA get as much as 6 months bonus or more, or some get it depending on performance of a fund if they working in a fund house, etc)

As you can see, there are simply too many things to consider before a company does their salary computation on how much a candidate gets

Hi HH

You mentioned that banks usually won't bother checking if you have any pending court cases for a contract staff. But why do they even need almost 2 weeks just for background check? 2 weeks sound to me like they will check everything including my family bg

Thank you :s12:

They need to get senior management approval first before generating the actual offer letter. Sometimes these senior management based overseas so might take a bit long.

The most important thing is, whether they have given you an actual figure verbally. They will say something like "they are happy to offer you the role of *** at *** salary. Then ask for your start date with them.

If they didn't go thru this part, then take it that you are not yet offered the role

Hi HH,
I received an offer for a role, but on the same day, that same role was re-advertised on a job board. what does that mean?

1) They are hiring more than one person
2) They need to close off the job online for administrative purposes

Depending on company, but usually more than 5k a month, and the company has a practice of giving 2 or 3 months notice for everyone.

Hi HH

If a person is working like 6 months and resigns.. Do it reflect the person badly? What can the person say to make it convincing that he or she is not f*cked up in the last job?

Thanks.

Yes.

Depends on what is the real reason.

By having a good track record in the person's previous job or come up with some personal reason

Dear HH,

If I were to go through say, recruit express and secure a permanent job, how would recruit express earn 'commission' from my job? Many people have said the company probably offered 4.2k and you asked for 4k, recruit express will take the $200. Is this true? If not how do they do it?

Thanks in advance hh
