Hi all,

I have some questions regarding custom clearance upon arrival into Japan and hope bros/ sis here can clarify about it.

Just did some research online earlier and noticed that we will need to submit a declaration on Visit Japan Web upon arrival however some travel websites advised it to be done in home country prior to flight as the free WIFI in Japan Airport is very slow as everyone is attempting to submit it there. Can someone advise on this?

Also is there anything i am missing out and should be done in Singapore prior to arrival in Japan to facilitate my custom clearance there?

TIA as this is my 1st time travelling to Japan since my last trip with my family 17 years ago HAHA :D

Best do it at leisure before you travel.

There's two parts to visit Japan web subdivision.
1. Immigration
2. Customs.

One qr code is generated

Basic data is retained for subsequent visits.

I filled up those forms on my flight to Japan... got 2 forms... 1 for arrival information like your particulars and purpose of visit and address of accommodation etc... this form everyone in the group have to fill in... got another form for declaration of controlled items/cash if applicable... this form can submit 1 as a group... just indicate how many person in the group...

From what I experience... I dun see any difference in clearance speed... U still need to go through the manned immigration counter... if u done it online the officer will ask you to scan the QR code when he ready... if u have those forms on hand just hand it to him together with the passport...

oh by the way if u put "visit relative" as purpose of visit... they want the name of the relative and relationship you visiting...

You can try limousine bus website if you like to plan. Else you can take the JR or subway when you reach the airport.

i didn't stay at Shibuya or Shinjuku when i went there early december.

you can try those business hotels or apartment hotels

all depends on whether you going as a family or just as an individual.

Any recommendations for young-kids friendly genghis khan (or any other restaurants) in Sapporo?

The last time I was there I went to daruma honten and it was nice but with a young kid I don’t think we can brave the queue (in winter no less)

How about Sapporo Beer Garden? I recommended this place to my friend and she brought her toddler there last Feb. Spacious too.

I will be going to Kyoto and Osaka in Feb 2025. My plan is go to Kyoto for 3 days and Osaka for 5 days. I will take the limousine bus from Kansai to Kyoto and from Osaka to Kansai, also will be limousine bus. My concern is my luggages, going as a family, we have two big luggages. I worry that I may not get to the right exits in the station and have to carry the luggages to climb up the staircase. To and fro from Kansai, I can take the bus, not an issue.
However, I worry about the journey from Kyoto to Osaka. Any body here knows is there a limousine bus service between Kyoto and Osaka Umeda? Thanks.

Nice weather for Feb trip. Yes, it's not going to be easy having to navigate and push luggage with family in tow.

"Although there are no direct bus rides from Kyoto to Osaka — there aren't any direct rides from Osaka to Kyoto either — you can still take at least two bus rides to reach Osaka."

However, I worry about the journey from Kyoto to Osaka.

Good news is that both Kyoto and Osaka-Umeda stations are popular points of connectivity and therefore are visitor-friendly with escalators and passenger lifts to the departing platforms.

JR Haruka :

Via JR Haruka Express (25 mins)

Would recommend you to purchase and reserve seats on this train as Kyoto is the departing station and therefore
  • more choice of seating arrangement for the family(windows and aisle).
  • more available room for luggage compartment.
  • photo opportunity with the lCONIC 50yo Kitty throughout the cabin (and washroom areas too)
I was previously using the JR West pass discounted ticket and always hopped on the un-reserved cabin during off-peak hours between Shin-Osaka - Kyoto.

There is also another train named Thunderbird which also has reserved seating and luggage compartment.

Do enquire with the helpful staff at Kyoto station. Most of them can speak English well and will use a translator when required.

Once you are familiar with the limited express trains and its platforms, you may decide if you wish to use the Airport bus limousine or to purchase discounted one-way tickets from Osaka - KIX.
