Hi Yamaha,

As compare between 101 & 401 soundbar, what's the pros and cons other than the pricing. Mine is a 4rm flat. Both support 3D samsung smart led tv? 401 comes with woofer where 101 don't. Any promotions ongoing for both? tks

Hi,

Real sorry for the late reply.

YHTS401 supports HDMI with 3D feature, while YAS-101 doesn't support HDMI. Key difference is YHT-S401 supports HDMI so you can utilise HDMI from all your sources like BD Player / Set-Top Box to S401 and only 1 HDMI to TV. With HDMI, YHT-S401 have built-in HD Audio decoding and Audio Return Channel features.

With a external Subwoofer, YHT-S401 has a better lower frequencies [Layman term: Bass]. While YAS-101 has a option to connect a seperate subwoofer if consumer has their own Active-Subwoofer.

Tentatively, there is no promotion.

Hope it answers your queries.

Cheers!

I managed to get the DTS signal after i connect to coaxial cable from BLU ray to YSP. I had thought this was not necessary with HDMI.

Hi Cruzer,

While Coaxial / Optical Cable carries up to DTS / Dolby Digital signals, only HDMI is able to carry HD Audio Lossless signals like DTS-HD Master Audio / Dolby TrueHD.

Hence, would strongly recommend you to run over HDMI will do and undo that Coaxial away. Activate your Bitstream output from your SONY BD Player. If you are unsure of how to do it in your player settings, refer back to where you purchase from. Otherwise visit any Sony Centre and check with them.

Cheers!

Hi YamahaSG,

I just bought the YHT S401. I intend to connect it with the starhub setupbox, mio setup box and PS3 together with the TV.

Can you suggest the best way to put them together to reach the maximun benifit?

Also whats the diff if i use optic cable or HDMI cable for connecting the soundbar to tv?

sorry im quite a noob in these things

Hi Yap,

Thank you for your purchase.

May i check which retailer / dealer you purchase it from?

Please use priority as follow:

1. HDMI
2. Coaxial
3. Optical
4. Analog [Red & White]

By looking at the back panel of subwoofer, it shows you the HDMI Inputs & Outputs.

Inputs = All your sources [BD Player / Set-Top Box / Game Consoles] use HDMI output to YHT-S401 HDMI Input.

Output = Connect the HDMI Output to TV HDMI Input.

Sorry i don't understand what you meant by "put them together to reach the maximun benifit"?

Do you how to set it up to get the best effect?

Cheers!

I'm interested in getting a Yamaha for my living room.

What's the difference between a digital sound projector and a front virtual surround system?

Hi Kraitz,

Key difference is Digital Sound Projector is a 5.1 Discrete Surround Sound technology while Front Virtual Surround System is using a Virtual Surround technology stimulating the 5.1 Surround Sound.

Cheers!

If i were to get a YSP 2200 and pair it with a SW215 sub , will it be better compared to the stock sub

Hi Leslie,

Hmm.. In theory, it is able to connect. But in actual fact, it doesn't help alot either.

Stock subwoofer is good enough in fact. Unless you had a very big living hall, then you shouldn't be even looking at such product category.

Let me know what is your concern ya?

Cheers!

Hi, am considering getting a soundbar for new home living room.

Am looking at YHT-S401 and YSP-5100, 4100. Is the difference in the speaker configuration and surround processing? What other differences do I have to consider between these two?

TIA.

Amps and Starhub

Hi there Yamaha Support

I have a question (although I fear I already know the answer) -

I have an RX-V3900 amp which is just SUPERB.

My problem? The starhub won't talk to the amp (through HDMI) unless I reboot the starhub box EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Is there a planned firmware update to fix this? Or is this a hardware problem?

It is extremely frustrating having to constantly reboot the starhub box - but the image/sound just blows my direct-to-tv HDMI connection away.

Thoughts? Solutions?

Cheers

Hi,
Can YSP-4100 be connected to a non-Yamaha subwoofer ?

The subwoofer connection output from YSP-4100 should be to LFE or INPUT of the subwoofer? I am connecting it to Velodyn SPL800 and all I get are humming noise.

YHT-S401 or YSP-2200

Hi YamahaSG,

Have no idea regarding the sound processing stuff. Need advice.

Is YHT-S401 and/or YSP-2200 able to decode digital signals (DTS, Dobly, etc) or must it be decoded via other devices first (starhub box, blue ray player, media player, PS3, etc)? :s11:

For YHT-S401, correct me if I am wrong, the AIR SURROUND XTREME doesn't really give the surround feel compared to YSP-2200 unless 2 more speakers are attached to it?

Starhub HD + Yht-s401

Hi Yamaha support,

I just purchased this and have issues with the setup with a Starhub HD box, not getting any pictures.

Have followed the setup you mentioned exactly, still no picture?

Have resorted to using an optical cable instead from StarHub => 401 and HDMI from Starhub => TV

Am i doing something wrong? TV is a sony KLV-32D300A Bravia.

Is there a person at the showroom that could help me here? or where is the best place i can seek help?

Regards

Hi,

Q1: Is YHT-S401 and/or YSP-2200 able to decode digital signals (DTS, Dobly, etc) or must it be decoded via other devices first (starhub box, blue ray player, media player, PS3, etc)?

Ans: YHT-S401 / YSP-2200 will supports decoding of Digital Signals and HD Audio Signals [DTS / DTS-HD M.A / Dolby Digital / Dolby TrueHD / etc..].
You do not need your sources to decode.

Q2: For YHT-S401, correct me if I am wrong, the AIR SURROUND XTREME doesn't really give the surround feel compared to YSP-2200 unless 2 more speakers are attached to it?

Ans: Have you audition it? Maybe i guessed you did not have a proper audition of what both models could do and that's you ask this. Let me know if i could arrange both sets in one store for your audition.

Cheers!

Hi Ray,

I guessed, you connect the subwoofer cable to a wrong terminal.
There is 2 Subwoofer terminals in YSP-4100 / 5100.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/529309_353444548041815_127195104000095_1063393_270083004_n.jpg

1. Ensure you are at the right connection. Picture above shows there is a Black RCA Connection, that is the correct Subwoofer output.

2. It can use with any Active Subwoofer so long as it is a Active type. You should use LFE only if your subwoofer cable is Single RCA to Dual RCA type. If your subwoofer cable is Single to Single RCA, you should direct plug into L(mono) Input.

Hope above helps.

Cheers!

Hi Dezzie,

In your situation, yes probably you already know the answer. Every country has their own Cable TV Provider and HD Set-top Box. While manufacturers try their best to meet every country HDMI specs [It is impossible to meet all while HDMI features and specs always upgrade and change year-to-year improving.]
What i could see, it is the HDMI handshake issue over the set-top box and V3900. While Set-Top Box has to restart inorder to send out signal to talk to the AV Receiver, in this situation, there isn't anything Yamaha could do to further help our customers. In fact, even latest HDMI products also face similar situation as you could see from this forum of our post [Probably a long long scroll for you].

Sorry my friend, if there's anything i could do to further resolve your problem, i would try my very best. But for this, i really couldn't further assist. It has to come from the Set-Top Box manufacturer while Starhub also appointed someone to mass manufacture their set-top box. Same goes to Singtel.

:(

Hi KB,

Well, this is the most common asked question in our threads.

There is many differences in product itself and specs between these mentioned models.

I would prefer you to audition it and hear from our representatives. Would you mind to PM me your contact so we could arrange for you to audition and better explain to you?

Cheers!

Issue with connecting to Starhub

Dear Yamaha support

I dont understand the co-relation between where i bought the unit and its in-ability to get picture from starhub??

Anyway, i got it off the Parissilk store.

Would you enlighten me on whats gone wrong? Or if there really is an issue with connecting to a Starhub HD box ?

Kind regards

Hi Nick,

The reason of getting to know where you purchase the unit from is to enable us to direct you to the representative to contact you directly to explain to you.

But if you ask my opinion, there is nothing wrong with Yamaha YHTS401. In fact, you should be facing "blue screen flickering" same like some of the HWZ bros here. And after awhile, the "flickering" should goes off and you can continue to watch your Starhub Set-Top Box. But this is what i assume and encountered myself, no garantee. I had 2 Video Clips of what TV screen shows on a Yamaha set and a Sony set. In fact both Yamaha and Sony has nothing wrong, the key issue is Starhub Set-Top box HDMI Handshake couldn't work correctly with general home theater HDMI Inputs / Outputs.

But again, i would emphasize i couldn't garantee that Starhub will work on it. It has been months we don't receive any solutions from them. So I can only say, probably what you do will be the best currently. Since Set-Top box contents doesn't have HD Audio, you do not require to use HDMI from Set-Top Box --> YHTS401, you just need a Digital Optical or Coaxial to do the job.

Hope here i explain is correct in your situation.

Cheers!
