Compatible cables is pretty much subjective. Depends alot on your budget and sound character preferences. Each cable has their unique character.

Hi I brought a yamaha 401 today. However I faced some problems. I connect my wd tv live to yamaha hdmi input 1 and the output to my 5 year old plasma LCD with arc. However there is no image come out. What could be the problem? I used other method like connect wd tv to the tv and the analog sound to yamaha, it work. Can assist to my problems? Is my tv too old or the hdmi cable?

First of all, thank you for your purchase of YHT-S401.

From the way you mentioned your connections should be correct.

But, "my 5 year old plasma LCD with arc" this is impossible. ARC [Audio Return Channel] over HDMI Interface only released last estimated 2 years ago in technology. And if you mentioned that you had "my 5 year old plasma LCD", was it a Plasma or LCD? There isn't any "Plasma LCD".

From this way, i really could not assist in any ways. But i trust 5 years ago TV [be it LCD / Plasma], some are not in Full HD 1080P. Hence i trust your problem should be this, because your resolutions does not supports to Full HD 1080p. Again, this is what i can assume over just what you mentioned in your problem that you have faced.

If you could, please PM me your TV Model and let me know what is your source video signal output resolution. Probably i could understand better from that.
So please PM me so i could try best to assist you.

Probably YHT-S401 "Bar-Type" could also be one of your consideration.

Hi,

I will recommend [2] in your situation. You can always starts from a simple AVR + Bookshelf Speaker + Subwoofer due to AVR has all the HDMI Interface and necessary features you need for home entertainment.

Start with a 2.1 ch setup now and later you can always add on a Center speaker and Surround speaker.

I recently bought YHT 296 in Auckland, New Zealand. Hop you can help me with the following:

1. The HDMI interfaces between the AV receiver and the LG TV (LG 50PQ60D, about 3 yr old) do no seem to be talking to each other. I have tried all possible ports. The only way I can connect is connect the two systems with the yellow Video cable while the Satellite TV connections (Yellow Red White cable) go into the the AV receiver. Is that the best way?

2. I have WDTV Live Media Payer (to which I have attached an Expansion Hard drive with movies). The HDMI interface is not working and while I can get the audio playing on the AV receiver, it does not seem to be passing on the video signal to TV through the yeloow video cable? What can be the problem there?

3. I have a old Sony DVD player (DVP-NS 575P) which does not have a HDMI cable. I am not able to receiver any signal through the Red Yellow and White cables here as well. What can be the problem here?

Is there a general incompatibilty here with the AV receiver?

Check the soundbar thread... supposedly able to get very good price in KL at a particular Harvey Norman branch. Otherwise, you can try calling Parisilk at Transit Road.

Edit: btw, cheap is a relative term... but u can definitely get it "cheaper" than recommended retail price.

kun1he2, how do u find the YAS 101 sound quality so far? i just recently bought mine at Expo for $419. waiting for my house to be ready then will install. how big is ur TV? how much u paid for the bar?

Wow, $419 only? At Megatex?

I bought mine for $450 and I thought it was already as low as it gets in Singapore...

My TV is 55" the LG 55LW6500 - using optical out from the TV to the YAS-101, and the other optical in connects to the PS3.

Overall, quite good I guess, but haven't really stressed it yet.

Hi!

I'm assuming based on $500 you mentioned is your budget. If $500 is your budget then RXV371 is the best fits to your requirement.

Slight higher will be at $749 for RX-V471 and $799 for RX-V571.

You mentioned 5.1 Speakers, do you mean including speakers and subwoofer and AVR at $500?

Hi!

HDMI Pass-thru sure to work. But there is a model of Starhub Set-Top box doesn't works well with major AVRs.

5.1 system

Hi Yamaha:

I am looking to get a complete set of 5.1 system (receiver + speakers), with budget around $1.5k.

However, there are several constraints for my home layout, therefore need advice from you to get the best system.

1. For the front speakers, I would prefer standing speakers, but the available floor space at the TV console is only 25cm wide on each side. I am looking at the NS-F210 speaker, wondering what is the dimension of the circular base of this speaker set? Can this speaker fit into my space? Any other option?
2. For the rear speakers, it is difficult for me to mount the speakers behind me, and I am not keen to run the cable from the front to the back. Is there any wireless speaker? or can I just put the rear speakers at the front but still able to get 5.1 effect?
