ASUS today announced the release of the U36 model notebook, the world’s thinnest notebook with a standard-voltage Intel processor. ASUS has developed a unique thermal design reducing notebook thickness to a mere 19mm while still packing a powerful Intel Core i3 or Core i5 processor. Together with ASUS’ Super Hybrid Engine technology and an NVIDIA® graphics card with Optimus technology, the U36 has a super long battery life, lasting up to 10 hours.

wow nice.. slim.. but only 4 cell battery with normal processor... the battery will take a big hit for sure... but i think the 4 cell battery shud be high capacity.. claimed can reach 10 hrs, meaning can last roughly 5 hrs for normal usage.. not bad for such a light laptop...

i wonder how much it will be... macbook air has serious competition now... this laptop confirm cheaper with much better specs....

the article (link above) could be misleading on the weight n battery life.

the fact should be these:
a) Config 1: 8-cell, 1.6kg, up to 10hrs of battery life (5600 mAh 84 Whrs)
b) Config 2: 4-cell, 1.44kg, claimed battery life was not stated. but if u halve that of 8-cell, u get 5hrs. in real-life situation, however, it could be just 2-2.5hrs. if the 4-cell can really last 10hrs, it can't be weighed 1.44kg. ;)

why does asus persist in using such a dated graphics card? want to change my laptop and have been tempted by their U series coupled with the Optimus tech (much more elegant than using hardware switch). too bad its always saddled with the 310m. :(

u may want to consider to pay slightly more for Toshiba T210. its' design is definitely more appealing than asus's. there are, white, black n red colours to choose from too.

to me, sub-notebooks (ie. 11.6" & 12.1") are usually meant for surfing, watch video, office doc or something light. thus, i wonder y the need of overclock or powerful CPU/GPU.

overclock comes useful when u need the processing power for example converting videos and etc..

its always useful to have overclocking for lets say future usage 2-3 yrs down the road.. but nowadays ulv processor are fast enough to even play flash hd1080 videos from youtube.. some older ulv cant i think but my i3-330um can..

So I am looking for something exactly like the U36. 13 inch screen, light weight and long battery but still powerful.

Is this the best deal or are there other laptops I should be aware of?
