My UX305 (5Y71 version with 8 gig ram) just died on me after slightly more than a year. No more warranty.

According to diagnosis , BIOS Chip failed and will need to replace motherboard. Bring to service centre this also don't know that also don't know, end up PCDreams diagnose for free for me and told me unrepairable.

Gave up because the repair cost will be more than 60% of the original cost.

Any idea why the catastrophic failure? Overheating?

Go Taobao and Aliexpress look for the reconditioned or over run main board. Buy the whole motherboard and replace it yourself. I bought one motherboard about 1.5years ago to replace my faulty Asus. Works great. It is even a newer model than mine. All for sgd100 shipped.

Not so simple, tried searching for the motherboards at taobao not cheap at ard 300-400 and no guarantee you are not receiving another DoA board.

I guess some things have to give. Nothing against ASUS but when you price the things lower, there are bound to be tradeoff. In this case I was unlucky.

No point, is not going to worth it. I gave up ASUS after using their UX303. Not only the machine is physically weak, drivers support is really bad.

Agree on the point of driver support.

Remembered my old dell vostro which was bought in 2011 still had driver updates up till end 2014

My UX305 which replaced the vostro had the infamous intel graphics crashing problem and still no fixes even after a year.

But I have to say the build quality of the ux305 is really unbelievable for the price. Every was solid , aligned and screwed down tight when I opened it up to salvage the m2 ssd.

hi, not really gd with laptop specs but am looking at the UX305CA-FC004T.
using a m3-6y30 processor and 4gb ram.

its for my gf and she does data work (excel etc) and watch drama using it. no games, at max flash games on browser.

is the specs ok for it? the weight itself is light enough which is a + factor and 1 of the main factors why i am looking at it.

hope someone chime in and help me.

thanks bros and sis.

that is good enough for excel file, unless the file itself has thousands of entries and lotsa pivots etc. watching drama & flash games on browser is fine.
Currently have promotion $999 only

I've tried to look at the prices and specs. Please correct if wrong, however only the lowest and highest spec'ed ones are black? Everything else in the middle is gold.

Hi buddy

Thanks for confirming. The gold is too flashy. For the price of the higher models, I'd rather go Dell...
