Looking at the point system, it seem to require some form of work experience. I'm still a local undergrad but am thinking of working in aust after graduating in a year's time. But since i don't fulfil the point system now, does that mean i'll need to wait for a few more years before i can apply PR?

TAFE tt bad??

I saw in immigration web that diploma also can have points to apply for PR. I thought accountant is still professional in thr SOL list or something? My results can get in the uni, but currently its financial wise. unable to get 60k loan

Yes TAFE is horrible. It is the equivalent of our ITE, you go to TAFE if you want to be a plumber, brick layer, etc... Obviously TAFE would have some business courses, but generally it is looked down upon by the upper class white population. Trust me I have studied in Australia for about 8 years.

Being an international student at TAFE= throwing money down the drain. You might as well go to ITE Balestier and then try and transfer to a lower tier Australian university (like UNE, UWS, Latrobe). But i'm not sure if that's possible.

i always thought TAFE was polytechnic equivalent. But ya, most locals are studying that cause they just need a skill or cert to go out and work. They complained that the uni degrees are too theoretical.

In fact, i believe the plumbers and mechanics are earning more than the office people.

Yes plumbers do get pay quite a sum. But just imagine if the government decides to increase the unskilled labour force by immigration, then all these plumbers would be out of work. But as a Singaporean going to TAFE is rarely heard off, I wouldn't recommend it.

There is nothing in their TAFE you cant learn in SG, if you wanna go TAFE might as well go ITE or poly. Go poly can still get credit exemption and you can get ur degree in 2 years time

even its lagi more laoya than ITE.. 2wiremodem just want TAFE Dip as a stepping stop towards a OZ PR. then he can do a accounting degree in a good Uni at a super low deal. TAFE program is 2yr? whats the cost like with living expenses?

if $$ such an issue, go those free countries.. then again, sweden no deal already.
cheapest Canadian option is still CND$9K a yr, add living another ~CND$8k. of course like OZ U can work off campus.

In the eyes of some OZ Uni, Nitec is equal to GCE O/PEO Dip while H.Nitec is equal to GCE A/PEO AdvDip or HigDip.

You still can get get credit exemption for up to 1st year or some modules using ITE Certs while Poly Dip, you can get get credit exemption for up to 2nd year for Uni degree courses.

So being an international student at TAFE is really throwing money down the drain.

You may wonder how I know cause I regret taking PEO Dip & AdvDip path for degree which is extra way when I can use ITE path to get my degree at a cheaper cost when I get the information from OZ uni.

My friend who have a Nitec went to TAFE to get his Dip because he think that TAFE Dip is equal to Poly Dip but he is wrong because he only get afew credit exemption using his TAFE Dip compact to his Nitec to get into Uni while Poly Dip get more credit exemption as what the uni Staff told him. So he waste $ & time for nothing.

I dont think ACD for a levels is THAT bad. perhaps you should consider gaining some work experience first and apply to the local unis again 1-2years later. I have peers who did that.

@ Kyoji83 if 2wiremodem with his TAFE dip can get gim his OZ PR, then its not $$ down the drain. yes he got to study longer at the Uni, but he is paying local rate. better than study 1 less in OZ Uni and be paying international rate.

however if TAFE Accounting Dip would not get him his PR, whats the pt of doing a Dip there! he also cannot find sgd$60k to fund his 2 yr degree (if living expenses is near nil).

Wah, TAFE is really really that bad??? How come accounting DIP cannot be used to apply for PR? i went to the immi website and diploma still can be used to apply for PR, also accountant still in the list leh..

Worst case is study in TAFE, PR application fail.. den no one wanna hire in aus, bo bian have to go back singapore and study private uni in singapore.

If successful to get PR den its a different thing? I am applying PR tgt with my gf in aus, she already got a degree but she taking another diploma course. Living expenses will be shared among us and i will definitely try to get a job in aus..

With my results, A - Econs, C - Geog, D- Bio, GP - E(just pass), H1 Math - B, all local uni don't want me. I applied for 2 years already but to no avail. I know studying in local private uni is much cheaper but i want to try studying in aus as i like the lifestyle and want to gain some experience. But financially wise bo bian for degree in aus..

Sry i'm babbling because really really torn between studying in aus TAFE or SIM etc..

Guess what only degree is accredited by these professional bodies CPAA/ICAA/NIA. TAFE Dip no go. those Professional Category U saw, having a darn degree is a req not optional.

get your gf to get pr, marry her for pr, then easier to find job. not marrying her how to apply together?? more like separate application, together as in submitted same time?
TAFE accounting dip look for job as foreigner whats the changes. pr so so easy to get why your gf still don't have her pr esp she already got her degree? she is doing postgrad dip? then to masters? hope to get the 2yrs oz req to get the pts for pr? since your gf have degree doing postgrad dip there, 1 yr soon be over. get her to apply loh.. she get it, marry her, then u go over to study degree.. no need to waste $$ on TAFE. that sgd$20-30k can be spend on wedding!

u doing dip or adb Dip? both 17 units, felt like 1.5yr program. fees is at aud$5k per session?

http://www.nsi.tafensw.edu.au/international/HTML/d2d.htm

if spend aud$15k+ in fees plus aud$10k (shared with gf over 1.5yrs), still no PR.. LL return to SG, go back to do SIM.
if u plan to cut cost and work as waiter, OT to over living expenses. TAFE dip with avg grades. ppl here already think TAFE is bad liao.. with poor/avg grades combo doubt it would help.
i guess sgd$30k u can find easily, just that a degree u are still of sgd$60k right? Eer me guess even if u go there for degree u gunning down the cheaper Sydney uni, maybe UTS.. aince 3yrs their is aud$62352 in tuition ( sgd$80k). cost of living leh? or u plan working can cover your living expenses 100%!

u like oz lifestyle? how u know? gf like it so in sydney. Sydney maybe the most expensive city in oz.
- want to be with GF and stay in OZ.. u could rely on her and marry her
- OR -
- study those SIM-RMIT program full time while working part time. earn some $$ and go OZ to finish your honors at UofMelb/UNSW/UDSY or do postgrad dip/masters! many ppl choose this path.. do postgrad Dip and masters, satisfy the 2yr req and apply PR.

if u die die believe a TAFE dip cn get U your PR, like I said go to these webby to find out

Current plan is to take a 1.5 yrs accounting diploma, together with a 0.5 yr business cert. Then try PR followed by degree.. Seems like a long shot. haha

From what i know from her there's a PR application for cohabiting or something.. my GF studied in MDIS, for 1 yr + and she finished her last semester and intern in australia. so now she taking another diploma to "clock" the points to apply for a PR.

Living expenses that bad? I just came back from sydney 1 week plus ago, i stayed in sydney for 1 month. Thus i know abit of lifestyle there, its pretty comfortable there compared to singapore. Working really unable to cover living expenses? Rent is about 400AUD per month, Food another few hundred, Transport about 160AUD(Red travelpass for 4 weeks).. Working part time there able to cover cost? There's such a thing as minimum wage for pple de ma? Usually how much per hour?

Its not i die die wanna believe tafe dip can, just that i read from the immi web that they accept Diploma for PR application.

Accountants is still in the list to be eligible to apply for PR but no longer in demand. Means processing of PR will not be prioritized and no bonus points.

You will need to go thru a body to assess your qualification for accounting qualification for the purpose of applying for PR. Diploma is acceptable for some occupations but not for accounting. Please do more research.

any studies done under a distance learning program (with a semester or weeks in Aus) will not satisfy the 2 years study in aus requirement.

go seek a professional immigration consultant. else please really do more research. all the information that you have read and digested is all wrong. just a waste of money and time if you are going to execute your plan believing in what you are believing now.

A$400 a month in rent. You will either live in really ulu surburbs or the place is really dodgy or broken down.

sure, there is min wages. whether they will employ you is another story. hear say is one thing. you will be surprised at how easy it is for asians to get jobs that pay the min wages.

you already answered your own question. and that is what i have been telling you.
your accounting qualification will be assessed by CPAA, ICAA or NIA. And a diploma will not pass the assessment.

a diploma may pass assessment for other bodies and/or occupations.

means a diploma in community service work will pass the assessment for welfare workers when assessed by the AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF WELFARE AND COMMUNITY WORKERS

but a diploma in accounting will not pass the assessment for the occupation of accountant by the relevant assessing bodies.

some diplomas when assessed by the relevant bodies, will require specific working experience. different nominated occupations have different requirements. please do your checks carefully.

wiremodem, to become an Australian PR is not that easy. Reading your posts, it seems you are putting all your eggs in a basket by taking the TAFE option. I am an Australian citizen and I know many of my Melb uni accounting friends who have finished their degrees and cannot get PR. The Australian government is not stupid and will not give out PR certificates like water. It is not easy to work full time to pay living expenses whilst studying full time. You should get your parents help.

$400 a month for rental in Sydney? Where at, Redfern or La Perouse? I'm paying $413 a week (including food and bills) at University of Sydney's on-campus residential college. There is a restriction on the amount of legal hours international students can work, unless you are prepared to take a cash-in-hand aka asian restaurant job. I don't like your chances because it is much harder than you think, living in a country for one month doesn't help that much.
