is it possible to graduate from a uni in australia, return to singapore and work a few years and then try to return to australia to find a job? anyone taken this path?

i've also heard of people who had good grades and managed to find jobs in australia just before graduating from australian unis...possible also rite?
I know of some people like that. They came back because they are forced to (family etc), and started their career in SG. Some of these people did well eventually before they went over. This time not really for themselves, but more for their kids. Slower pace of life, no NS etc.

yah NS is a waste of time.

i will not allow my future generations to serve NS.

its bull ****
Its only a waste of time if you choose to believe it that way. I served NS and while I think it could be better, I learnt alot and to be honest, its pretty reflective of life now that I've ORDed for a few years. Take it positively and it will help.

NS isn't all bad. I made some very good friends inside, many of whom aided one way or another in my career, and I learnt some very important values inside the army.

i think those that managed to find jobs before graduating are in specific industries that are highly in demand or have exceptional grades or other achievements.

doesnt your study visa expire once you complete your studies? how to apply for pr if no working experience?

" students that have earned a degree in Australia have a special work visa category"
"
• 485 Skilled Graduate Temporary Visa
This visa is the most common option available to international students after graduating. With a 485 visa, you are allowed to stay in Australia for 18 months to gain work experience only if you have just completed at least two years of study in Australia."

over the two years, i've learnt:

1. how the billions of dollars pumped in every year simply cannot be justified, no matter how abstractly you look at it.
2. that i won't ever pay tax to support such useless regulars. i rather donate to tt durai to make golden tap at home
3. that summing up every possible lesson learnt, they could have been taught within a week. not by wasting my 2 years
4. not to EVER have a kid in singapore
5. that PRs are a bunch of wussies. from personal experience, i have PR friends who enjoy elite education, get into medicine overseas and renounce their citizenship. in short, they milked the system and left it to rot.

i'm pretty sure they're more. just can't think of them right now

NZ and AU offers different things. AU is more cosmopolitian. More City in any means (although the great wildlife is just at your doorstep), and generally more expensive.

NZ is slower as compared to AU, good quality of life overall, and the NZ's natural offerings is honestly quite hard to beat. Both arn't too far apart, but AU is generally better for people who started in SG as the pace isn't that much different.

But I love NZ nevertheless. The greenery is just impossible to beat!

I don't like Aussie(Melbourne), so boring shops close at 5 p.m, mostly of the time spend at home, how about NZ? boring or not? and must get PR to work there? compare with aussie which one easier to work if degree from sg? thanks.

If you find Melbourne boring, NZ will be worse off for you. But NZ seems easlier to get in (PR). As for standard of living, the cost of living is lower in NZ (so is the pay and exchange rate).

well, ur statements just reveal how pretty useless YOUR two years are. 2 years and u can't even understand simple facts and snort away like an idiot who simply speak because of the need to speak and not because you have something significant to say.

To be frank , i do not like NS for the fact that Singapore is milking the local males. We give up 2 years of our life and yet we do not get a lot more than the Malaysian chap who comes here to study for free, snatch our jobs, our ger and our housing. thankfully the differentiation is sharpening due to recent nationalistic cries. But i do recognise the NS is needed. If not Malaysia or indonesia will ride over us. The millions spent is justified. Regulars might be useless in your dimwitted view..but if they are not there, u probably might not have a home...

think about it it. You might have wasted ur 2 years, do u want to waste ur life like an idiot?

nope. its just life in sg
Well, I've lived in Europe for a while and its the same. Some +s some -s. Nothing is perfect. The larger an entity you work in, the more SAF becomes like it. Its the same everywhere.

im sorry, has the government's Utopian mindset gotten into you? do you HONESTLY think that singapore's 3g saf can defend itself? please la. grow a brain before you call people an idiot. when you're outnumbered 10 to 1, you think technology can help? please please please, don't make me laugh at your naivety.

perhaps you're a glorified officer brainwashed into thinking your services were rendered for a great cause? or maybe you're a spy for the regulars just being sore that your near future is pretty sad in such an organisation. if a 1wo blatantly puts down an ingenious suggestion by pte due to his rank then i really wonder what the higher ranks are doing. oh yes, im a clerk looking at the backbone of the saf and im laughing at the thought of this "army" fighting a war. imho, any organisation with an absolute rank hierarchy, simply has no future. btw, regulars who didnt even complete sec 4. u trust them to lead the army? I ROFL at your stupidity.

btw, are you able to call a 1 room flat shared by 6 people home? wake up your idea please. alot of true blue singaporeans don't have something i would dare call home.

edit: i'm not afraid to admit that my 2 years were wasted. i believe alot of other service side nsfs also qualify. i believe i would have contributed more to the economy if i was allowed to complete my degreeS first. i am still puzzled why women from ite cant be conscripted to do this. fyi, im not being elitist, simply pragmatic.

peace. just my 2 cents. i dont want to offend someone with nothing up there.

what u learnt during army , i can also learn those things by working outside for 2 years.

if ns is made non compulsory , will u volunteer to serve it , since u say so good? lol
Getting touchy eh. I didn't say it was good. I said I took it positively and learnt things from it. Army presents another dimension of life to me. It is a LL situtation. Because I don't have a choice. I can't quit. I can't play punk. There is always the damn SAF act horvering over my head for whatever action I choose to take. I can't go AWOL. I can't anyhow take MC when I like.

This are the freedom that one take for granted until we (or at least me) head into the army. It made me treasure what I have. It made me a better man. If it didn't make you one, its your choice not to draw from it.

actually i previously had an ang moh boss who came from the UK. at the start she said something to the effect of, "i heard people work late here. but we will knock off at 5:30pm everyday and go home for dinner."

of course we were thrilled, but by the time we were in the 2nd or 3rd week of the project, we start to realise that if we go home everyday on the dot, we can't finish our work. Therefore, we had to start making excuses like "traffic is v bad so i wish to stay for awhile more" or "there's no dinner for me at home" etc..

does leaving at 5pm really work?? i'm actually quite skeptical.. i would consider a move to AU/NZ if the amount of hours i'm putting in here can get me > 20% more than what i would achieve here in terms of pay, savings, and the ability to own a house and car.

lol, ur arguments......

1. Outnumbered 1 to 10? We are not exactly comparing population size in a war.
Hmmm, which modern war is actually fought by 2 opposing armies in an open battlefield?? Even in ancient warfare, the battalions of the roman armies win easily against Guals that outnumber them many times. All because Romans have formations and advanced weaponry while the gauls do not.
By the way, the size of our arm counting NSmen is actually greater than our neighboring armies ( yes, u can go into the crap about how lousy NSmen actually are etc, yea, precisely b/c of pple like you lor)

It's not about naivety but an understanding of how modern warfare works. If you truly know nothing, concede your point and move on..

I have my reason for calling u an idiot b/c u talk without evidence, without proof, with reason.

2. I am not an officer. So there goes your entire line of argument for paragraph 2. Besides, your so called regular without proper education isn't really proper. These folks typically become specs or WO. In these folks what's more impt is not your grandiose ideas of planning covert operations or a D day operation but to simply lead the pack of 6 or 7 men into a mission proper. And why not trust them? I've seen many folks who are schooled to a degree but not educated but seen great leadership and common sense in those with ITE, O level pass. You are defined by your actions, your thoughts ( even what you say online) and not what your education level is.

3. Wat's the part about home? you mean ur bunk is small is it? Erm. Ok.

4. Lastly, i can empathize with you. As a clerk no wonder u felt let down. It's certainly boring. No wonder u are so angry. The thing is, i've a clerk who manage to resit his O level and got into a poly when he was serving.... Similar to you, he said that his 2 years was a waste until i pointed out to him that if he didn't enlisted, maybe he wouldn't have done well in his O levels to get into a poly.

I really think it's down to the individual to feel about his 2 years. For you, u are bitter and u resent it and u are just what you are...an idiot.:s12:

( i might be totally wrong, but i can totally profiled your type. Junior college educated, parents probably earning decently. Think he's very smart to get into Uni and why is this stupid government disrupting my all too impt studies + some more ordered by those stupid enjick who didn't even have a complete O level cert. My advice to you boy....u haven't seen the world yet. good luck to you. )
