wtf..bringing up such an old post to give the WRONG information somemore.

pls go and read up on the new GSM requirements for IELTS, now 7 is the bare minimum and 8 will give u more points.

And seriously, your other post regarding ur room in prospect road...come on, who will want to pay $175 when room right next to flinders or FMC are going for 135-150 with gas, water, internet and electricity throw in for a tenant household only? Some of them even have a cleaning service thrown in for good measures.

Nope, like i mention for some requirement, 6 is adequate.
Some of my frds just got their visa approve based on new standards. They are agriculture masters students who just graduated last week.

7 is a must for skills such as accountancy.

I gather U have graduated and is applying for PR?

graduated from RMIT EE moved to Adelaide? They pay for relocation?

its your nationality that determines, not what certs you have

I am a Singaporean who is born & educated in Singapore.

Singapore 1st language is English but it is a Malay country which make countries like Australia do not recognize our GCE O English for migration purpose which is the reason why we needs to take IELTS & etc.

I am not from a stated english speaking country, however the certs listed below is awarded from a stated english speaking country that certified the same standard as the english speaking country.

So my question is do I still needs to take IELTS (if I do not needs the points) if I have 1 of the following certs?

A) GCEE from UK
B) GCE A from UK
C) AUSMAT Year 10
D) AUSMAT Year 12

Unless u r from the stated english speaking country, else u have to take IELTS for PR or any visas. I did mine too. but i do not need to that IELTS for entrance to the course cos i score B in O-level. So 2 differnt things, IELTS for Visa and IELTS for the course you r applying.

Patryn33,
well yes n no. I grad from Rmit EE went home 4 years, return to melb, for 1st entry and vacation cos i was overworked for 4 bloodly years, any how apply jobs to test water, 2 mths later i relocated to adelaide, with 2k(i think) aud relocation package with 1st mth accomodation fully paid for in service apt and free airtickets.

Although i moved from melb to ade, but package is paid for from SG to ADE.

yes you do.

http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-english.htm

You must demonstrate that you meet the English language threshold.

The English language threshold is at the competent English level which is a minimum score of six in each of the four components of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test system

getting a score of 6 does not give you any bonus points. it only makes you eligible.

honestly, the IELTS is not that tough, I have no clue why people make such a big deal out of it. if english is truly Singapore's 1st language, as you claim it to be, you should be able to cruise through the test.

from my experience, the people who go about moaning about how english is our first language and we shouldn't have to take the test tend to be the same people who have the most troubles getting a high score on the test. surely, you're not one of them?

guys,

i recently just completed my australian uni education through distance learning and i have 11 years IT work experience in sg... wondering if i got good chance to apply for PR?

thinking of working overseas (australia / new zealand will be ideal) but then without PR, seems hard to find a job in australia.

I am from a total manderine speaking family, i think SG ppl ard my age are most from non english background famiy....

that's no excuse. many australian PRs are first generation english-speakers from countries where english language instruction and usage is minimal (sometimes non-existent), but they are very driven and have put in a lot of time and effort into improving.

i also got an 8.5 for ielts after screwing up. i only checked the format of the test the night before. did not practise at all. probably why i screwed up. ooh n when i came out of the testing centre, some korean was camping there n he asked me if i was korean. then he proceeded to ask me what qn i got for the speaking test. basically i could not understand a word he was saying n he was using some sign language as well haha. that guy shouldn't have taken his test...

No. My mom is Chinese speaking and my dad speaks English. I just am more proficient in English than Chinese :o

OMG, so many post on IELTS and english/chinese background score better!

I think IELTS is the easiest requirement to clear. Let's focus on the other areas to score pts.

Just wondering. what are the chances of applying as a specialised accountant in doing only AP/AR/Gl . this is pretty common due to the SSC function in many MNCs? With an equivalent accounting degree, does it make us less wanted in AU?

My plan is to apply using my accounting degree ( SIM_RMIT).. then move there .. will then see how it goes.. since they pay blue collar jobs fairly well.. Will use that as back up if cant find a finance related job.

How feasible is that?, btw i am 35 yo with finance experience doing AR and GL :(
