it will work, but depending on your use case, you may find it slow.

it's restricted to 2.4GHz N band, and the ethernet port is the old 100Mbps "fast ethernet".

but if it's just for general browsing and youtube, it will work.
the key criteria is, under your current network and useage, do you find unacceptable slow speeds?

personally, if you were to extend the range with access points (APs), it makes more sense to go with more recent technology - at least AC and 5GHz for wifi, and 1Gbps for wired ports. these are available for less than $20 (i have picked up a few for as low as $5) on carousell. cheers

do you have the brand and model number?

by AC, u mean like this - https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/access-point/tl-wa1201/

yes, that model will work.

for me and extended family and friends, we are fortunate to use wired for our computers. wifi is for casual handheld device use.
Examples of the models used (not in order of merit) are DIR-868L, DIR-850L, RT-AC1200G+, RT-AC66u, RT-AC68U, Archer C7 or C2. basically re-purposed old routers configured as AP. since they don't do routing, the CPU load is pretty light, and no complaints about speed. The AP in front of me is a RT-AC56S. There are many others which can also be re-purposed.

as a side benefit, the AP also provides 4 extra wired ports.
disabling the wifi makes it into a cheap switch.

the added benefit are some of these routers also support opensource/alternative firmware, so you can actually increase their capability.

hope this helps

Can ask I signed up for m1 1gb (upgraded from current m1 500mbps)

Currently using Huawei ax3 pro (China version) and quite happy with the wifi connection and directly Lan connection to my pc.

I am thinking if I should use the asus ax6000 or sell it and continue using my ax3 pro? Can expert share any performance differences I can feel?

Avoid the EX221 if you can. It enables ISP to carry out remote management and potentially spy on you.

Ref: https://www.tp-link.com/sg/home-networking/wifi-router/ex221-g2u/

Easy Remote Management for ISPs
Support TR-069 protocols, enabling ISPs to remotely configure and manage end-user devices.
Support TR-098, TR-181, TR-111and TR-143.

Sell away. To be honest for a casual internet user, it wont make a difference.

errrr........

i hope you meant ,selling away ax3 pro from huawei and not the asus
haha... i mean definitely the asus is way better than the huawei. But if someone is just using for internet surfing such as youtube, emails and even game if its on wired ethernet, wont really feel any perf difference unless you gonna do speed test.

Real world usage for him wont matter since he mentioned this,

"Currently using Huawei ax3 pro (China version) and quite happy with the wifi connection and directly Lan connection to my pc."

For his PC, already on wired, so even a cheap gigabit router will still get him 800+mbps to 900+mbps if he is on a 1gbps plan

Wireless for his phone and devices he already currently happy with it which i assume is instant video buffering etc. Changing to the asus one probably have the same effect no?

Unless you saying he downloads alot, with multiple users at home eating up the bandwidth...but from this statement above, "quite happy with the wifi connection", i take from it is that all is okay, why change? Selling the Asus for $450 to $500 can cover abit more than a year's internet fee.

But then again, if money is nothing really of a concern, yea he can change it to the Asus, just that real world user performance might not make much of a difference for his usage.

to be honest,

swapping to that asus will be much future proofing, in my own view, where the support will be extended

chipset, asus is better [ newer ]
support , asus is better [ newer ]

and likely even if theres no change in the number of users, the number of wifi6 / future 7 devices will surely have impact in performace.

Above all, huawei stuff ? nahhhhh not really a fan after the whole fiascal of their company ,

nothing against the suggestion , just odd to retain old things, when theres "free" newer ones , logically speaking,

though if the aesthics portion is questionable, i would agree the ax3pro looks decent compared to the gaudy looking asus "gamer" looks

MR still at it? my old MR issued "technicolor" router also had this documented ISP "benefit".
it's fine as an AP though.

TR-069 was also one of the reasons why i left singtel during the adsl days. it was either accept TR-069 or double NAT, or buy own (sunset-technology) ADSL modem/router.

Yes MyRepublic seems to be the only one other than Singtel to "offer" TR-069 "feature" to the end users.

Ref: previously they offer TP-Link EC330 and now they offer TP-Link EX221-Gu.

thanks for the update and info. will have to strike MR off any isp under future consideration.

Now that you mention it, will be watching out of curiosity if they change stance with SH integration (or if heaven forbid, SH adopts it as well). idle curiosity only.... :ROFLMAO:
