jenny about the battery life, should get better after u fully drain the nook and charge it again. But from wat i read from mobileread, the battery life is less than a week.

hi forgive my ignorance, but how do you drain the battery? i;ve been reading maybe a couple of hour, all in about only 200 to 300 page turns, and the battery down to 60 per cent, nowhere near the few thousand page turns of sony! at this rate, i may need to charge daily.. thanks,

Thanks cubeall, I've switch off wifi and put it on airplane mode, and that seems to work. now i can see how long the battery lasts for reading alone.

meanwhile, this thread in mobileread says can use non-US sim card..awesome, although i wouldnt know how to do it! -http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74218&highlight=nook%2C+sim.

for now anyway unless you soft root it there isn't a browser etc.. it would be great, however, to be able to download library books directly w wifi, now that i see how convenient a wireless download is from bn bookstore..

hm .... i am new to e-book/e-reader stuff, so i'll just buy books direct from B&N. But i realise some books are just cheaper in amazon n by quite a big difference (US$19)guess i have to wait for the price drop. As for rooting, i'll pass .... am not good at all with such things, might accidentally destroy my nook in the process.

haha decided to take the plunge and ordered my nook from B&N yesterday night and it's going to ship via Borderlinx! :)

had some minor obstacles though, just a heads-up:

  • I tried paying B&N via my PayPal acc so that they'd have no way of discovering that I'm using an SG credit card...but no luck, they refused to accept my payment and PayPal asked me to use the usual payment flow (entering your CC on B&N). Must be because my PayPal is an SG-registered one.. :(
  • I entered my CC number & whatnot on the payment details, and they asked for billing address. I entered my SG home address, maybe hoping by some chance they'd allow it, but no-go, they rejected and said that it was for sale only in the US. Oh well, so I used my billing address same as my shipping address (Borderlinx provided).

Hopefully they won't reject it >_< and I'm pretty excited for my nook to arrive, which should be on Friday~Saturday if Borderlinx estimates are right. B&N sure is fast, provided expedited shipping for within the US :)

  • hi - yes i sort of did the same, local card, borderlinx address. I was uncertain for a couple of days until the package actually shipped and you can track it in your b&n acct. One thing - if they reject the order, as it happens for ebooks, you'll knowit within minutes. So I think it's likely your order ok! Enjoy!

Hi - I'm liking my Nook more now! I seem to have the hang of the finger swipe for page turns which makes it easier. Just a light touch. Now I wish they'd do a firmware upgrade to make it easy to organise sideloaded books! And of course improve battery life.

Good news! My nook arrived yesterday (7th March), exactly a week after I placed my order with B&N. I recommend Borderlinx for anyone who wants to import from the US! :)

Initial thoughts, good, the page refresh rate is great, and 8 hours on standby took around 5% of the battery. At this rate, it'll survive only a week on standby after a full charge. Not too shabby, but the Kindle has a better battery life.

I haven't bought any books yet from the B&N store, other nook owners, where do you buy your books?! :D

I just placed my order this morning! Initially the status says unable to process order asked me to call their cust svc but when I check again abt an hr ago, the previous status gone and now it says "Expected Ship Date: March 8, 2010" :) So i guess its shipping afterall. Btw, I'm using Vpost.

Yeh... I'm also curious.... dear Nook owners, where else to get ebooks besides B&N?

Yes I agree battery life isnt v good. wifi on drains battery quite quickly, so once you have downloaded your books etc, best to put on airplane mode. i am testing this week how many days on airplane mode it will last me, simply for reading. Hope they improve it in next update.

I buy books from booksonboard sometimes, and sony bookstore. b&n pricing on most books is cheaper, but there are times when Sony surprisingly can be cheaper, or carry titles that b&n doesnt have.. last weekend i actually found books priced exactly the same betw b&n and sony, but i chose b&n for conveniece of wifi download! of course they wont open on my sony reader which is a bummer.

Anyone who has the courage to softroot their nook can pls advise me on how to do it? i know you risk bricking it but o well... I was extremely curious. I actually made 2 attempts, and couldn't do it. And no I didn't brick my Nook! O well, the reason I'd like to do it is with the softrooted Nook there is a feature MyLibrary or something where you can organise your books into folders. for now I console myself with the fact that I dont have so many (less than 100 so far) on my Nook that I need folders. But still it's a hassle to scroll through titles.

My wishlist for next update: folder capability. And also the ability to adjust font size per book. Right now one adjustment will apply to all books. But bec of the way diff books are formatted that just doesnt work. If i move betw books I have to keep readjusting font sizes.. not so major point, but will certainly be a plus if they can fix that!
