Hi nightwolf. i dont think gift card works tho i havent tried myself. the b&n shop detects based on IP address. even ebook purchase on amazon now has become more difficult, if you see the forum on amazon. spore purchases now cant go through with gift card bec of ip address... hv to use some vpn service..

Hi lorettatay. You seem to be the go to person for e-readers. Currently I'm at the crossroad of choosing my first e-book reader. Decisions decisions :s22:. Right now theres the Kindle, Sony PRS-900 and Nook on my list, will you be so kind as to provide some input on these devices?
Thanks a mil.

im honoured :D. but i did not use kindle and 900 before so cant provide much input for u. the 3 readers i used before are hanlin v3, sony prs-505 and nook. sold off hanlin cos partly i bought 505 and also i find that for hanlin when i tried to zoomed to the max the words tend to faint. for 505 and nook i am still very happy with them. why i buy the nook cos i am amazed by the color book cover(i am swa ku mah lol). maybe the rest can add yr input for kindle and 900?

Hi - finally settled my vpost shipping, so i should get my Nook by the weekend! exciting! Now i'd like to ask Loretta and Lyn and anyone with a Nook - ever tried soft rooting it? Been reading the threads at mobileread.. I believe the only feature i'd want is the improved library view for side loaded books, the browser and others, i think won't be too impt. Of course i dont know if i'm brave enough to do it, although it seems you wont brick the Nook.

The other feature is - I gather the Nook doesnt have a quick go-to page (is that right?), i hope they fix that in next update.. Now when I get it I have to cue the pages from my Sony reader onto the Nook!

i have the heart to root my 505 but till now i still dun have the heart to do that on nook as i dun see the need to LOL...

nook has a go-to-page function so i wonder is it the same as yr mentioned quick go-to-page? try to keep a close watch on the status of yr package if u r using vpost(dun wish to elaborate more or else i will vomit blood)...

reading pdf on nook is fine for me as i can choose the size of the fonts but for self-converted pdf we cant change the font pattern...

Its ok. I can get someone who travels to US to get it as well especially SIA staff :). Hope I can join the Nook club soon. As i understand, Nook does not support txt and doc formats... hoping the later updates might resolve this.

ya the only problem with nook is that can support a few format only but no worried we can always use a converter to convert to pdf...

Is the bottom lcd panel distracting? I've read that performance is rather sluggish, has this been resolved in the firmware v1.2?
