are you on debit or credit card?
Let me explain how a debit card transaction works:
1. When u charge to your debit card, the bank will earmark the amt by reducing the available balance in your account. The bank pay interest based on current balance.
2. Once the merchant claim the amt (ie settled), the bank will post the transaction in your account, then deduct amt from current balance.
It is not considered spent until it is posted and deducted from the current balance.
The bank cannot pay u interest twice.
How does the payment bonus work? Any tips on this?
May I know BOC card pays Town Council fees counts for valid $500 spending?
Seldom see credit card transactions post on the same day.. You have to buffer in time for the transactions to post.
That time I was successful because that transaction took 5 days to post, I got lucky when I explained to the CSO, they appealed for me to the higher level and got back to me after a few days.
Do note merchants have up to 7 days or something, it is not within the bank's control too.

Card Spend Bonus Interest
You will enjoy different tiers of Card Spend bonus interest based on your posted transaction amount within the calendar month.

ya..based on this, I lost my case already.... sob...
Some banks use Transaction Date, some use Posting Date.
Must read their T&Cs .
pls list examples of some banks, so far i only see banks use posting dates..
yup, will do.
btw, understand debit spend is counted for bonus interest too, so not necessary to apply for credit card. when we open account, will automatically get a debit/ATM card right?
question - are the exclusions for debit card the same as for credit card? not interested to be forced to spend more for card rebate, just bonus interest.
2nd question - is the debit card issued on the spot during account opening Visa/Master?
I have the same question as Maumu.
I'm signing up now and it seems they ask you to choose between Chinese Cultural Card (Mastercard) and Zaobao Debit Card (UnionPay). What happens if I don't select either of them? Will they issue me with a generic debit card?
HSBC EGA based on transaction date.
