Hey guys sorry if it's been asked a million times but i'm new to the forum and i'm aware of all the different avenues and information available on this topic, but I still want some personalised suggestions!

I want to build my own PC used for general purposes (My laptop died after 5years) and probably gaming (Dota 2, FPSes etcetc), but i don't know how to get started. My budget is around 1.2~1.4k for the PC (excluding monitor, keyboard, mouse).

Thanks in advance! :s13:

Oh and is there such an issue as a compatibility issue if the parts are bought in isolation? Like, do certain graphic cards work better/less well with certain mother boards? Afraid that in isolation, the parts are good, but put together they slow each other down or cause some incompatibility issues.

clones ah....
since he is not a hardcore gamer who is anal about achieving a high framerate then a 280 will do. only $325.

Should be sufficient to see u thru for the next 2 yrs.

But, he mentioned COD. Not sure how the new COD would be like, though i doubt it will be more intensive thatn BF4... Better to overkill a bit.

Sorry totally noob qn but what's tradepac? And is it possible to have it assembled where i buy it? no point saving a couple of dollars only to have it messed up by my hands.

i5-4460 + Msi b85m g43 ~ $335
Crucial 8gb ddr3 ~ $100 (Is 8gb enough? Is there a considerable difference between 8gb and 16gb if I don't run video editing programmes?)
Plextor m6s 128gb ssd ~ $104
Wd blue 1tb ~ $68
Leadtek gtx760 OC ~ $335 (Is there a noticeable difference with the r9 280x?)
Superflower hx 600 ~ $108
Lg dvd rom ~ $21
CM n200 ~ $55
Win7 64 oem ~ $115

And what's the procedure like for buying from these shops?

8gb will be sufficient , tradepac is a shop name in SLS .

On 1080p 280x will let u play most games on ultra settings without issue, gtx760 will let u play most games on ultra and a few very demanding games on ultra/high settings with some tweak like AA off etc

As for Dota 2, CS GO , COD ghost etc will not be a issue to run on max settings, maybe lower AA on COD ghost for more consistent fps @ 60

U go to the shop , show them the items u need (without price we quote), ask them quote u a price, if too expensive ask them give u some discount , if they dun wan do ur business just walk away go other shop buy.

If u need them help u assemble as well u might wan to go pctheme to get ur rig and ask them help u assemble as well, a little more expensive there but their service and assembling of pc is pretty good. I'm sure if u ask nicely they will give u discount as well ~

Yeah my friend was telling that PC theme is reliable, though it seems to be a lil more expensive. Anyway is the warranty for individual parts or does the shop provide some sort of guarantee if I build it from scratch w them??

All parts have their own individual warranty which starts from 3 yrs, except for peripherals. You would need to research on where are the distros for each brand beforehand.

I wun say PCT is ex. They are selling at rrp prices. Tradepac is able to sell lower coz they are able to siam some things, in which they can push some savings to us customers and attract more sales. But, just dun let them assemble your rig, not recommended.

U want cheap, go tradepac and bargain. Bring all stuff to #02-32 and ask nigel to help u assemble for a fee.

U want shop to help u assemble, go to pc themes. But, prices wun be as fantastic as tradepac's de.

You can slowly wait....

Buy and bargain at Tradepac and bring to #02-32, PC Care & Solutions, ask nigel to help u fix for a fee. just be a bit more thick skinned when bargain, but dun go overboard..

Buy from PC themes and ask them to help u assemble for a fee.

If anything happens within 7 days, u can bring back to shop. But, make sure its something wrong and not that you dunnoe how to assemble some parts and say cant fit, etc..

After 7 days, bring to distro le.

Not really, for your last statement. You can buy all at 1 shop and bring to another shop for assembling. Its for reassurance as nigel's shop is reliable.

Dun need bother about soundcards. Whats your budget for speakers? Can consider Swans M10 at $109. You can head to cybermind to audition it.
