If you need a 3080 now, aftershock is your best bet. Dont pay scalper lol. Dont see the GPU stock getting better anytime soon.
Ya intel is a joke now. My main rig is Ryzen threadripper so I am an AMD boi now.
But for gaming, any middle-range CPU can kick butt at 4k.

Recently enquired from a SLS shop about a new rig and also checked out similar specs on Aftershock. I can tell you that Aftershock will give you the most value for your money atm. SLS shop advantage is you have more freedom of choice/customization. Aftershock advantage is you give up some freedom for a lower price and better availability. DIY is another animal, don't step in unless you are prepared to do some "battle", especially in getting the GPU part.

So yes, as what some have said, what's your goal? Just wanna play games? Or are you a DIY hobbyist? If you just wanna play games, my suggestion is pay the retailers and take your rig. Worry free, just enjoy your games. If building PCs is your thing, then sure, step into the deep end... 😁

Edit: Also, the direct answer to your thread topic is "why wait". Most of the reasons for people waiting is not really worth it, TBH. Unless you're fine with your current rig and don't really need a new one, then yeah no harm waiting for something you really want (e.g. 4000 series GPU, Alder Lake, AM5, DDR5, Gen 4 ssd to drop price, whatever)

I'll tell you this is overpriced and might as well get from SLS.

6900XT is great for gaming but price is hardly that high. Maximum around $2.2k for a full system build.

Mobo: MSI MAG is the lower tier for MSI gaming boards, below MPG and MEG. X570 is unnecessary unless you need high PCIe bandwidth, like I did when I ran 2 GPUs on PCIe 4.0x8. Even then, not all X570 boards give x8 speed to the second PCIe slot, some only give x4 or worse, 3.0x4, which means it's an X570 board that doesn't maximize the chipset potential. My Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master is an almost top tier X570 board and costs only $500, this MAG Tomahawk I think is in the $300 territory.

RAM: okay, RAM is expensive now, 32GB this variant maybe worth about $270 - $280

SSD: better check whether it's the lower tier PCIe 4.0 SSD or the higher tier one. Lower tiers have a sequential read speed around 4500 - 5000MB/s, which in real life is not much difference from the best Gen 3 drives, or even something like the WD Blue SN550 with a sequential read of 2400MB/s. Only the higher tier Gen 4 which have up to 7000MB/s are worth the price premium now. Aftershock have this variant in their lineup.

PSU: RM850 should be an 80plus gold, probably worth around $200 - $220 new.

AIO: okay, 360mm quite exp, and if you want to buy local then pay the premium. But yes, what CPU? Anything lower than 105W TDP probably won't benefit from it. I.e. unless you are running Zen 2 3900X and above or Zen 3 5800X and above, this is overkill. I run my 5900X on a 240mm and it still kills benchmarks. CPU usually runs at lower steady clocks when gaming vs. benchmarking too, so it should require even less cooling. Ryzen is well known for being energy efficient so make sure you are not paying for what you don't need.

If you're really willing to pay $5k, honestly, do yourself a favor and go to Aftershock or SLS and get yourself a system with a RTX3090. GPUs are the most critical component now and you'll thank yourself for getting a 3090 over a 6900XT. If not, get a 3080 system from the same providers and save yourself a few hundred bucks, and still get superb gaming performance.

Okay. 5900X is $1k. So I have given the rough values up there, you check and see whether you're happy with it. Of course, you have to factor in some workmanship fee if getting from service providers, just make sure you are comfortable with the margin.

The motherboard, TBH dunno whether you really need X570. The main advantage over B550 is extra PCIe lanes. If you will ever only install 1 GPU, this is irrelevant. Don't buy the BS that X motherboard is "not good" for Y CPU unless the person explains why. I've used both X570 and B550 with a 5900X and the chipset alone tells you nothing. Two things to consider are

1. Power delivery: can the mobo supply the CPU with enough power, otherwise your CPU won't boost as high or as long
1a. VRM cooling - in the world of computing, heat is your enemy. This helps with stability of the power delivery

2. What other features does the mobo offer. Simply go to the mobo website and compare. Don't have to be 100% detailed but at least get a feel for what you are getting. Reason being if you don't need an X570, you can possibly get a B550 with better features at the same price

All these salesperson who say "X component no good for Y CPU/GPU" without explanation, they are either 1. Smoking you to get you to pay more or 2. They themselves know nothing about what they are selling

I feel the price is pretty much in line for a pre-assembled computer. The 5900X is probably worth more than 1K given the near non-existence of this chip in the market. It is on the high side, but it is what it is. Things that like casing, Corsair case fans, and Lian Li strimmer plus also adds quite a fair bit to the cost. The unfortunate fact is that all the extras above the base specs will cost a lot more than what you find in SLS. That's why I always recommend to check online to see if you can find better deals (which is highly possible) and tend go for the base specs. Things like additional SSD and RAM are easy to buy and install. If something goes wrong, you can always switch back to the base config and test or get Dreamcore to test it for you. The after sales warranty should add another 10% to the system cost, which is already factored into the final price.

I do agree that the RTX 3090 is a better deal than the RX 6900 XT if the price gap is not too big. However, I would prefer a custom cooled one because the memory at the rear can get unhealthily hot under load with just a conventional backplate to cool the RAM chips behind.

Haha not true leh 5900X China have a lot, and cheap(er). Of course, one can make the case that China one not covered by AMD Singapore, but end of the day all of it comes from the same fab at TSMC, no difference whether China or not. The China one only diff is box outside print chinese, even the warranty card inside also in (international) English, and the QR code is perfectly legit when scanned with AMD warranty checker. Worse case is the retailer bring in China set and sell as local. End of day you claim warranty they also send it back to China. So far have bought/used 4 Ryzen chips from China, 1x Zen 2 (tray) and 3x Zen 3 (PIB), all no probs. Funny thing is I use so many China chips no issue, while others use local(?) have so many issues, even just turn on PBO full auto also can have problem ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ. But yeah to each his own, depends on your comfort level.

Its true that the likes of Aftershock may actually be procuring their 5900X from some China seller. But whatever happens to the chip, we only face off AS. To be honest, the number of issue with CPU is not expected to be high. The issues that surface through forums are probably a small percentage of the number of chips sold by AMD.

Wait, the prices now are ridiculous. Radeon RT performance is crap currently anyway.
