Yep. Intel is a better performer. Ryzen 5 1600 is around 90% of the performance at about 30% cheaper. Also i suggested waiting for coffeelake which isnt out yet. Check out the video below

Hi
Upgrading my PC from Intel i7-4771k ~2014, DDR3 16 gig.

Keeping my EVGA GTX 1080 FTW and ASUS PG279Q Monitor, Corsair H100i Cooler, and RM850 PSU

Thinking of:

SSD: Samsung 960 Pro M.2 512 gb
CPU: 7700K or wait for Coffee Lake
MOBO: ?
RAM: ?
Casing: ?
Speakers (Optional but pref good quality at decent price, say 1-200)

Assuming budget is okay but not too out of whack. Any suggestions?

but tbh ur pc is still quite capable of handling current games, and if u still end up wanna to upgrade, i still think u should keep waiting for kopileg.

I agree with you. just itchy to squeeze out 20~% more frames on ultra 1440p AAA games. kopileg seems good tho.

Hi All

Looking to upgrade my current rig:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790
MB: ASRock B85M Pro4
RAM: Kingston PC1600 DDR3 8GB X2
GPU: Zotac GTX 960 2GB Twin Fan OC
SSD: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB
HDD: Seagate 3.5" 4TB SATA3 HDD
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer
PSU: Seasonic S12G 450W [80 Plus Gold]

Looking to upgrade also because of a persistent problem:
My desktop keeps restarting on it's own.

Sometimes it can last me quite awhile, after a half/an hour usage it will restart.
Once the restart kicks in, it will keep restarting after the log in. Its a cycle loop. log in restart, log in restart.

Only after i off it for sometime then it can last me another half/an hour again.

I also realised if i watch videos, some files will restart immediately.
I check my temperature and fan, all is fine.

Any advice anyone?

well for your system i still think that the cpu is overkill for your usage, unless u are really playing for high end gpu games do consider upgrading your gpu.

but to solve your issues, my guess will be either your mobo, psu or rams.

if your system is still under warranty, u can send it down for testing, but if its now u can consider going down to SLS to have a check. and see if mobo is it required to change or not. but please do ask if they still have haswell chipset board as your CPU is more than enough for your current usage.

Makes more sense to get a i7 8700k and z370 motherboard. Pay a little more for 2 extra cores and 4 more threads. For cooler, would recommend a cryorig h7 over evo 212.

No ssd? Highly recommended to add one.

Rocking a SoundblasterX Katana currently

Considering 8700K + Asrock Taichi
1) What's the best ram to pair with the above? Strongly considering Gskill Trident Z
2) Are there 3200mhz CL14 ddr4 in the local market? Only see it online usually
4) Any practical different between CL14 and CL16, and frequencies higher than 3200Mhz?
